Silk Road Project takes on poverty
BEIJING -- China, the United Nations and neighboring Central Asian countries plan a program aimed at reviving the ancient Silk Road by boosting investment, trade and tourism.
The $1 million, two-year Silk Road Project involves China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
It seeks support from other countries with historic links to the remote, 6,000-mile trading route that once linked Europe with Asia, said Khalid Malik, representative for the United Nations Development Program in China.
Organizers hope to relieve the region's isolation and poverty by adjusting policies to promote travel and trade, Malik said.
Such efforts might also help to counter terrorism, he said: '' From our own experience, where there is peace and prosperity, terrorism subsides.''
Visit www.travelchinaguide.com/silk-road/ for a look at one tour.
For the details, please refer to their website: http://www.suntimes.com/index.html
This is really good news to be heard that the Silk Road will be developed to be a great touring itinerary and cast off obscurity and poverty. Besides, TCG website is a good way for overseas people to know more about Silk Road and synchronously 8 touring itineraries are designed for tourists' Silk Road adventure.
