If weather permits, we can start the day in the early morning by viewing the haunting spectacle of Angkor Wat lit by the golden light of sunrise. Return to the hotel to have breakfast. Then proceed to Angkor Thom's imposing South Gate, topped with the four serenely smiling faces of Avalokiteshvara. We will focus on visiting the Bayon Temple, the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King. Bayon Temple is at the heart of Angkor Thom, and it has 49 impressive pagodas as its highlights. The most distinctive feature of the temple is the four-faced Buddha carving on the tower. The reliefs on the wall are also amazing and worth your time for appreciation. They tell the religious and mythical stories and also of the wars and ordinary people's lives. The remarkable Elephant Terrace still retains some of its original glory. Lunch is served at a local restaurant. Stop to explore the jungle-entwined temple, Ta Prohm. After that you will reach the Bakheng Temple to enjoy the splendid sunset if weather permits. Visitors are fascinated with its very exquisite inscriptions and carvings. We suggest you a lunch stop at Bong Thom home stay (reservation is needed) or at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, return to the ancient capital of King Indravarman I (877–889), now referred to as the Rolous Group and known as the birthplace of classical Khmer art and architecture.
