Aquatic Products Museum

The Aquatic Products Museum is located in the Seashore Park of Beihai City, to the north of the urban areas. Opened to the public in 1978, it is regarded as the largest aquatic products museum together with Qingdao Aquatic Products Museum in China. Beihai Aquatic Products Museum mainly exhibits sea animals and plants in the South China Sea, which includes both specimens and live sea animals. The 2,800 sea fauna and over 670 specimens are arranged according to the evolutionary order of living beings in the museum.

The museum is divided into seven exhibit halls, one turtle pool and one seal pool. Besides these exhibits, which are common in any kind of aquatic products museum, this museum also gives visitors an opportunity to see some special ones. A Dugong, colloquially called mermaid, about 2 meters (about 6.6 feet) long, is on display in the Sea Animal Hall. The mammal of Dugong is quite rare on earth now. Some sea animals are protected by the Chinese government, such as the Chinese White Dolphin and the cowfish, which are on exhibition in the same hall. One old turtle will surprise visitors, because it is 600 years old and weighs 100 kilograms (about 220 pounds).Besides, the sample of a big lobster and the skeleton of a huge whale are real eye-openers.

What's more, visitors can enjoy the wonderful synchronized swimming shows and watch divers feed fish and dance with the sharks in the water. The China-first all-directional transparent passageway will present colorful and mysterious underwater scenery to the visitors. Moreover, visitors will be attracted by the ancient relics such as the porcelain wares transported in the ancient Silk Road on sea, the lost city of Inca and the sunken ship in the Second World War.
