Hello, I am travelling to Shanghai on July 17, to watch the Total Solar Eclipse (Jul22). I understand there is a lot of construction works going on in Shanghai in preparation of the World Expo 2010. My question is if the view on the main tourist attractions are suffering from nearby building sites ?
Thank you!

Jul. 3,2009 02:17
Ms.Michelle(China) replied:

Mr. Timmer, I know what you mean. You want to find a open area for viewing the eclipse, right? In my opinion, you can go to the Bund.

Jul. 3,2009 02:19
Ms.Michelle(China) replied:

Just look at the picturs of the Bund. Here is the site:

3. how is the weather at this time?

Jun. 30,2009 01:59
Mr.Alan replied:

Hi, you may consider the Shanghai Happy Valley. There are lots of fun in this theme park. And, Nove 1 is not any holiday, so you don't have to worry too much.

During the end of Oct, the temparature of Shanghai is around 15C, so a thin sweater is okay for going out. Well, you have to take some warmer clothes for the little boy!

For one day, classical garden in Suzhou, West Lake in Hangzhou, they are both ok. My suggestion is: make a comparison by pictures:

They are all easy of access from Shanghai bybullet trains. Personally, I prefer Suzhou.

There are lots of places in Shanghai, so here is just a brief list:
Bus: Shanghai Bus Station-上海客运总站, Shanghai South Bus Station -上海客运南站
Train: Shanghai Railway Station-上海火车站, Shanghai South Railway Station-上海火车南站

For the subway, you could see all of the stations at http://www.travelchinaguide.com/cityguides/shanghai/transportation/subway.htm

The Shanghai Railway Station has four express trains to Beijing everyday. The journey is about 10hours and costs about 450RMB per person~

HI,
I will be going to Shanghai this Sept09, could you please advise how I can reach Nanjing Road and any nice hotel nearby. How much is the taxi fare to Nanjing Road and the hotel rate nearby. Thanks. wong

Jun. 15,2009 22:48
Ms.Hilton(CN) replied:

Hi, which part of Nanjing Road you will come? If your destination is on the Nanjing West Road, you could take the airport shuttle bus Line 2 to reach Jing An Temple which is on Nanjing West Road and an ideal place for looking for a hotel. Of course, you could take the Maglev from Pudong Airport to arrive the Longyanglu Station (just 7 minutes) and then transfer to subway Line 2 which will stop at Nanjing East Road, the People's Square, Nanjing West Road and Jingan Temple one by one. If you take a taxi, the fare is aroud 130~150RMB.

As for a hotel, a lot of choices along the Nanjing Road, you may refer to this website's hotels list at:

Hi, if you mean $8-~00 per night, I think you could have a 5-star or 4-star rated hotel with good location. Please consider the New World Mayfair Hotel, the Broadway Mansions Hotel along the Bund, the Richards Hotel, the Shanghai Park Hotel. Lots of choices, you may have more recommendations at http://www.travelchinaguide.com/hotel/shanghai-hotels.htm
