The Guangdong – Hong Kong train is comprised of the Guangzhou – Hong Kong through train and the Zhaoqing - Hong Kong through train. The former one runs between Guangzhou East Railway Station and Hong Kong Hung Hom Railway Station. Currently, there are 12 pairs of trains running on the route each day, among which 10 pairs stop at Dongguan (Changping Railway Station). The later one runs between Zhaoqing Railway Station and Hung Hom Railway Station. It is actually the extension of the Guangzhou – Hong Kong route. There is only one pair of these each day. In addition to Dongguan (Changping) and Guangzhou East, it also stops at Foshan.

A single ride between Guangzhou and Hong Kong takes about 2 hours; the ride from HK to Zhaoqing takes 4 hours and 3 minutes and the ride from Zhaoqing to HK takes 4 hours and 1 minute.

Passengers should get to the departure station at least 45 minutes ahead of departure time for exit formalities. The boarding gates are closed 10 minutes prior to departure.

 How to Buy a Ticket
The ticket can be purchased at departure stations on the mainland or in Hong Kong.

 In Guangzhou, tickets are available at most 30 days ahead of departure on the second floor of Guangzhou East Railway Station. There is a special ticket hall for the Guangzhou – Hong Kong route up there and there are HKD counters and CNY counters.

 In Hong Kong, tickets are on sale 30 days prior to departure at the Intercity Through Train Customer Service Centre at East Rail Line Hung Hom Station, or ticket offices and agents.

In HK, ticket can also be bought online (http://www.it3.mtr.com.hk/b2c/frmIndex.asp?strLang=Eng) or via phone ((852) 2947 7888). A service fee of HKD9 will be charged regardless of ticket types and it is not refundable. Booking is cut off 30 minutes before departure for northbound carriages and 6 hours for southbound carriages. Passengers need to collect the tickets themselves with the credit cards used for booking at these spots:

Tickets can also be booked on eInstant Bonus terminals found inside some MTR stations. However, the payment can only be done with an Octopus Card. If booking is completed successfully, one will get a “Booking Bill” and it can be changed into a ticket only at the Intercity Through Train Customer Service Centre at East Rail Line Hung Hom Station.

1. All the fares above are for first class seats. Premium class seats are available for passengers traveling between Hung Hom Railway Station and Guangzhou East only, which are HKD230 for an adult and HKD115 for a child;
2. The above fixed fares are in HKD. Fares in CNY are floating based on the current exchange rate;
3. Tickets for trains departing from Zhaoqing and Foshan can be purchased only in mainland China;
4. Child tickets are for children aged 5 to 9 years old. Those aged 10 or above are fully ticketed as adults. Children younger than 5 years old can take the train for free; but they need to be accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket and share a seat with that adult.

 Ticket Change & Refund
Both ticket changes and refunds need to be handled at the location where the ticket was purchased. For northbound tickets, it can be changed at least 30 minutes prior to departure and refunded 2 hours prior; for southbound tickets, it can be changed and refunded at least 6 hours ahead of departure. The earlier one refunds a ticket, the more one can get back of the fare. Changed tickets are not refundable. The scale of refund:
