Thanks

Nov. 14,2009 03:21
Ms.Thelma(CN) replied:

BTW, there are T-trains available, which are more economical. Here is info:

T110 2204/1123
The tiket costs RMB499 for soft sleeper lower bunk and RMB327 for hard sleeper lower bunk.
Hope it helps.

I would like to know if the following itinerary is practically possible by train and how I'd get the train tickets (in time):

dec.28 Beijing -> Pingyao (overnight)
dec.30 Pingyao -> Xi'an (departure in early morning or even midnight)
jan.1 Xi'an -> Chengdu (departure in early morning/afternoon)

Thanks a lot!

Thomas

Nov. 16,2009 02:16
Mr.Christopher Sawyer(USA) replied:

hi, take train from Beijing to Pingyao and Xian to Chengdu is comparatively easy. The train tickets of Pingyao/Xian are hardly to be purchased, as Pingyao is only a 3 minutes' stopover of the those trains. I suggest you take car to Taiyuan, which are the departure city of the trains.

For the train tickets, you may try to reserve them from your hotels in Beijing, Pingyao and Xian in advance.

Do you the train ticket prices (and hotels, too) go up in April from March? My friend and I are planning a trip in late March or April. The airlines fares seem to increase in very early April, and so I am wondering if that holds true for trains and hotels?

Thank you for your help.

Nov. 16,2009 01:53
Ms.Jaclyn(Cambodia) replied:

Good day, Sir! Prices of train tickets are quite stable. If there is any increase on it, the authority will inform the public in advance. Well, hotel rates vary a lot. As I know, some hotels even have different prices in days of one weeek. But afer you make the reservation, the price should be set.

Greetings,

Could you explain what is the difference between Hard Sleeper and Soft Sleeper? I traveled by train once before from Harbin to Heihe and it was a room for 4 people and we could locked the door at night. Would that be considered Hard Sleeper?

I am planning travel by train in a month and is interested in a room that has doors and can be close any time.

Thanks for comments.

Nov. 8,2009 06:58
Ms.Fang(Malaysia) replied:

What you took was the soft sleeper. There is no door for hard sleeper. I think there is details about the difference on this web.....

My friend and I are planning to take a train from Beijing to Shanghai, and then one from Shanghai to Guangzhou, then from Guangzhou back to Beijing.

Does this sound doable and good to you? We would get to lots of scenery and we both like trains. Also, in late March, early April. Any comment on that time of the year?

Thanks much.

Nov. 9,2009 02:34
Mrs.Svetlana(USA) replied:

Ms. Fang,

Thank you for your comments. I needed only that one clarification. The rest is clear to me. I used to travel in different countries, just was not sure what is what in China.

Mr.Visitor(USA) said:

Just had my first experience with the China train system yesterday. (Shanghai-Suzhou trip). When booking my ticket at the automated machine in Shanghai (They had an "english" button on it), I selected the business class(31 yuan). I booked my return ticket at Suzhou, and despite the language barrier, I managed to get one. :) However, this ticket is showing a price of (26 yuan). (soft seat?) How will this seat be different from my previous one? Also, at shanghai railway station, the people helping take my bags out of the taxi asked for 120 yuan. I thought it was because my bag was a bit oversized, but they then proceeded to guide me through the entire process of getting on the train, including waiting with me for 45 minutes in the waiting area. While it was very convenient for a first-timer, it was a bit more than I needed. :) Was this service part of the business class ticket? Offered to be because I'm obviously not a local? Just curious.

Hi,
I would like to know if the following is recommended travel.
Beijing to Xi'an - Monday 22 March 2010. I would like to go on the T41 train, leaving at 16.43 arriving Tuesday 23 March at 5.22am.
I arrive in Beijing on Friday the 19th of March and will ask my hotel to book me a train ticket - is this correct? Also should I get a soft sleeper ticket?
I am travelling alone so any assistant you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Nerida

Nov. 8,2009 07:14
Mr.Jose(CA) replied:

It is best to take the soft sleeper. You can have your privacy, though with other three strangers. There are several trains from Beijing to Xian every day. It is too early to decide which one you will take now. All of them, nevertheless, have soft sleepers, I think. Why don't you ask your hotel to book the ticket after you book the room? I just think that it may be a little urgent for your hotel to buy the ticket only 3 days in advance.

Nov. 8,2009 23:18
Mr.Jose(California) replied:

Thanks for your help! After doing a little more research I came across China Travel Services in Xi'n who will purchase me a ticket once the train sale opens (10 days in advance) for the Z19. Do you think this is a good idea? Do you think it will be hard to get the ticket on the 19th (4 days away from travel) when I arrive in Beijing - will that not be enough time? Regards, Nerida

Do sleeper trains have both hard & soft sleeper carriages on the same train. I'm looking to travel with a group so we want to stay together but don't want to pay extra for soft sleeper.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Nov. 8,2009 07:18
Mr.Philip(USA) replied:

Yes. They are on the same train. Hard sleeper train tickets are always more than soft sleeper train tickets. If you buy it earlier, you should have no problem to get a hard sleeper ticket.

Only a few trains in China have deluxe soft sleepers facilities, like between Beijing Shanghai and Shanghai HK. While, soft sleeper compartment with four berth are common.
