Shanghai South Railway Station

Shanghai South Railway Station, the former New Longhua Station, was constructed in 1908. It is about 9 miles (15 kilometers) from Shanghai Railway Station, 11 miles (17 kilometers) from the Hongqiao Railway Station and 30 miles (48 kilometers) from Pudong International Airport. It mainly operate normal speed trains. 

Extensively renovated in 2006, the station got a modern circular makeover, and became the world's first round station.

Schedule and Ticket Booking

The South Station provides service to a few large cities such as Hangzhou, Kunming, Guilin, Chongqing, Guangzhou and many second-tier cities such as Nantong, Huaihua, Fuzhou, Baotou, and Shiyan. Passengers to Haikou can also take trains directly from this station via the Yuehai Railroad. Additionally, services to some of the adjacent tourist destinations are both efficient and convenient. Most importantly, it serves the intercity service along Jinshan Rail Line.

Station Plan

The station is comprised of a terminal building, a North Square and a South Square. Inside the terminal building, there are three floors.
 2F: waiting hall, ticket office, check points, entrance
 1F: waiting hall, ticket office, platforms, entrance
 -1F: arrival hall, exits, ticket office for transfer passengers, Metro Line 1 and Line 3, taxi stand

How to get to Shanghai South Railway Station from downtown area?

 Arrival by bus:
At South Railway Station Bus Station: 32, 341, 704, 747, 867, 957, 973, Pudong Airport Bus Line 7, Shangshi Bus Line
At North Square: 180, 301, 303, 729, 763, 803, Hongqiao Bus Line 1, Songlong Bus Line
At South Square: 144, 164, 315, Nanchuan Bus Line, Nannan Bus Line, Shangfeng Special Line, Shangjia Bus Line, Shangzhu Bus Line

Passengers arriving by bus will be dropped off at either north or south squares. If having booked the ticket, enter the station directly with the ID certificate used to book to the ticket, then find the waiting area according to the ticket information. If not, buy one in the north square ticket office, or B1 and B2 ticket offices on -1F. Afterwards, read the ticket information to find the waiting room and wait there.

 Arrival by metro: Line 1 & Line 3 & Line 15
If getting to the station by subway, one will get off on -1F.

 Arrival by taxi:
Taxis are allowed to drop passengers off at the station entrance on 2F.
From Shanghai Railway Station: It takes about 30 minutes and costs around CNY55.
From Hongqiao Station: It takes 35 minutes and costs about CNY65.
From Pudong International Airport: It takes about 50 minutes and costs around CNY150.
 

 

Ticket Check and Boarding

Passengers should have their ID certificate checked at the right check point. Overseas passengers should use the manual check channel. After, go to the platforms to get onboard.

How to Exit and Leave the Station?

Upon arrival, all passengers will be led to transfer hall on -1F to exit. Passengers can easily find taxi stands, metro entrances or buses here to leave the station.

 Leave by metro :
Waiting area of Metro Line 1 and Line 3 is on -1F. After confirm which line to take, go to the specific area to take it.

 Leave by bus:
Bus stations can be found at either north or south squares. Passengers should confirm where they need to go first, and then find the corresponding bus station.

 Leave by taxi:
Taxi stands are easily accessible at the east side of the south square, west side of the north square or on -1F.

 Transportation to other places:
 People's Square: Take Metro Line 1 to the square. If interested, one can also walk westward to visit the prosperous Nanjing Road or eastward to the Bund.

 Oriental Pearl Tower: Take Metro Line 1 to People's Square, and then change to Line 2 and get off at Lujiazui. Get out from Exit 1 and walk about 440 yards (400 meters) to the destination.

 Railway Station: Take Metro Line 1 to the destination.

 Hongqiao Station: Take Metro Line 3 to Hongqiao Road and then transfer to Metro Line 10 to get there.

 Hongqiao Airport: Take Metro Line 3 to Hongqiao Road and then change to Line 10 to get there. It is one stop further than Hongqiao Station.

 West Station: Take metro line 1 to Xujiahui first, and then transfer to metro line 11 to West Station.

 Pudong Airport:
1. Take Airport Shuttle Bus Line 7 from South Square of the station to get there directly. It departs from 06:50 to 21:30 with an interval of 20 minutes. The duration is about 70-80 minutes and costs CNY20.
2. Or take metro line 1 to People's Square, then change to line 2 to the airport.
 
 

Facilities and Services

 Ticket Office:
There are five ticket issuing locations in the station, including north square ticket office, the No.1 and No.2 ticket offices on 2F, and B1 and B2 ticket offices on -1F. The No.1 ticket office on 2F opens day and night.

 Waiting Hall:
Waiting rooms are available on 1F and 2F. There are A1 and A2 waiting room on the first floor. Waiting rooms 1 to 12 are hard seat ones on second floor. Among them, waiting room 2 is especially for the old, weak, sick and disabled. On west and east sides of 2F are soft seat waiting rooms. If you are making a train travel with kids or during pregnancy, you can go to the nursery room for babies and mothers outside waiting room 2.

 Left Luggage:
Storage cabinets for small articles are respectively close to No. 1 and No. 2 ticket offices on 2F. Other left luggage services can be found on the southwest corner of the north square and the northwest corner of -1F. It charges CNY10 per piece of luggage each day.

 Youth Service Desk:
It is located in the waiting hall on 2F. It provides services including advice seeking, emergency medicine, needlework, wheelchair as well as complaint handling, lost and found etc.

 Toilets and Hot Water:
Many toilets and hot water can be found inside the waiting hall. They can be found between the No. 1 ticket office and east soft seat waiting hall, between No. 2 ticket office and west soft seat waiting hall, and another seven toilets and hot water can be found in the hard seat waiting area.

Besides, medicine stores, gift stores, shopping areas are also available in the station.

Transfer time between two trains at shanghai south
We are catching the T25 train from Shanghai South to Guilin at 17.28. If we catch the K469 from Suzhou, arriving at 16.49 will we have enough time to make our connection?

How can I get there from Shanghai South station?
We live in Ningbo now and we will have three days to Shanghai a few days later. I need some information to take metro, not taxi. Thanks.

Take subway line 2 at south railway station and change to line 10 at Shanxi Nan Lu station,
and then you can get to Yuyuan Garden station, Exit 1.
Another way is to take metro line 3 from south railway station and change to line 10 at Hongqiao Road station.

You can take metro line 3 to Yan'an Xilu and exit from gate No. 2. Then you need to walk about 1.5km to the east to get there.

There are direct high speed trains from Shanghai Hongqiao Station to Fuyang station. You can search on this website.

You can get it from Hongqiao station too or any other railway stations in China mainland.
