Location: Lu'an City is commonly known as Wanxi for its location in the western part of Anhui Province. It neighbors Hefei, the capital city of the province in the east and is bordered by Hubei and Henan provinces in the south and the west.
History: The name Lu'an originated during the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD) when the Emperor Wu set up the Lu'an State in this area. Lu'an was first established as a prefecture during the Yuan Dynasty.
Physical Features: Lu'an is located at the northern foot of the Dabie Mountains. The city is higher in the southwest with mountainous, hilly and plains regions as its main landforms. In the southwest area of Lu'an, the average altitude is above 400 meters (1,312 feet), while eastern and northern Lu'an are plains areas and the main farming areas.
Climatic Features: Situated in the transition area between the subtropical zone and the warm temperate zone, the city is characterized by moderate weather with sufficient rainfall and sunlight. Its annual average temperature is around 15℃ (59℉), and the plum rain season usually occurs during June to July.

Attractions:
Tiantang Zhai (Stocked Village of Paradise) is said to be the last virgin forest in East China. It is a national forest park and a national nature reserve as well. Tiantang Ding is the highest peak in the scenic area and also the highest peak of the Dabie Mountains. Waterfalls are the highlights of Tiantang Zhai. All in all, there are more than one hundred waterfalls. The Plunging Waterfall and Dragon Pool (Feipu Longtan) is the central attraction of the scenic area.

Travel Tips:
Lu'an city is an hour's drive to the Hefei Luogang International Airport. Lu'an Railway Station is located in the Yu'an District to the south of the city proper of Lu'an. It is connected with the ring road. At present, visitors can find trains to Hefei, Nanjing, Shanghai and Ningbo.
Tourists visiting the ancient cultural city of Shouxian County and the well-preserved city wall of the Song Dyansty (960-1279) should go through Huainan. It only takes one half hour to get there from the Tianjiaan Bus Station in Guoqing Xi Lu of Huainan.

You can take a bullet train from Lu'an to Nanjing. The bullet trains include D3012, D3016, D5484, D5488, and D3004. In Nanjing, there are many sights worth seeing. The Confucius Temple (Fuzimiao), the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum and the Nanjing Road and so on are highly recommended.
