Fuzhou is a famous tourist city with
beautiful and countless sceneries and an excellent city center,
and with natural and manmade sights. There are famed mountains,
temples, tombs, gardens, towers and bridges throughout Fuzhou.
The national scenic area-Mt. Gu
(meaning drum hill in Chinese) is located in the eastern suburb
of Fuzhou City and the evergreen mountain-Mt. Gu is a famous Buddhist
scenic spot, sitting on the north bank of the Min River. It is 17
kilometers (about 10.6 miles) from downtown Fuzhou. It gained its
name from a large rock on the mountaintop shaped like a drum, and
during thunderstorms, thunder appeared to emanate from atop the
mountain-'drum', hence the name Mt. Gu. From the Song Dynasty (960-1279),
there are 500 inscriptions on the cliff face by literates of this
time, which is rare in China.
Transportation: you may take the Mt. Gu Special Line from Wuyi Square
or take bus Nos. 7, 36, 37, 808, 815, 949, 957, 960 and Mawei Special
Bus Line to Mt. Gu.
Situated in the north suburb of Fuzhou City, 7
kilometers (about 4.3 miles) away from the downtown area is Fuzhou
National Forest Park and is one of the ten national forest
parks of China. Rare animals and exotic plants, blue water, flowing
waterfalls, unusual rocky outcrops and stone carvings coexist in
a harmonious blend of natural and manmade sights.
Transportation: bus Nos. 34, 802, 811, 945, etc. can take you to
Fuzhou National Forest Park
Located in the center of Fuzhous' downtown area, the same as Mt.
Wu, Mt. Yu has been an attraction since the Tang Dynasty (618-907).
You can climb up to the White Tower on Mt. Yu, which is facing the
Wu Tower on Mt. Wu, to appreciate the panoramic views of the city.
White Tower and Wu Tower are the
symbol of Fuzhou City.

Lin Zexu Memorial Hall, nesting
in Macau Lu, and established in 1905, Lin Zexu Memorial Hall exhibits
the history of Lin Zexu, a folk hero of China who banned opium-smoking
and the opium trade.

West Lake Park, situated in the
northwest of Fuzhou in Hubin Lu, is famed for its similarity to
West Lake in Hangzhou. It has been a tourist attraction since the
Tang Dynasty (618-907). West Lake Park is the most completed ancient
garden in Fuzhou City and is called a pearl of gardens in Fujian
Province.

In the west of Fuzhou City, on the foot of Mt.
Yi, Xichan Temple, an ancient temple of the Tang
Dynasty (618-907), is one of five Buddhist temples in the City.
There is a dagoba of a Buddhist monk from the Five Dynasties (907-960),
the imperial handwriting of Emperor Kangxi and also murals of Qing
Dynasty (1644-1911). Another feature of the temple is the many Litchi
trees, planted in the Song Dynasty (960-1279).

There are many more facinating attractions in Fuzhou
City including the Zhuzifang Block (located in the central area
of the downtown) and is a large ancient architectural museum of
the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasties (1644-1911). It is a must-see
sight for the architectural styles of which the old city is famed.
Earth Towers of the Hakkas is a unique style of Chinese village
architectures. In terms of architectural characteristics, the rounded
earth tower is more traditional with the Hakkas and is a typical
example of a Hakkas folk residence.
There are many reasons for visiting Mawei. If you
want to know more about ancient battlefield, if you want to look
around the base of ship-making, if you are crazy about historic
sites, then visiting Mawei is indeed a wise choice.
Not only are there ancient sights, there are also
new places to be explored, Jinniu Shan Park, Minjiang Park, Mt.
Qingyun and Shiba Chong Xi (brooks).
The well-known Mt.Wuyi is an important sight in Wuyi Shan City, Fujian
Province. We will offer some information here on transportation
to Mt. Wuyi for making your trip smooth.
Wuyi Shan Airport opened up the flight corridors
from Wuyi Shan to Fuzhou, Xiamen, Beiing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Guangzhou,
Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Changzhou etc. Outside the airport, there are
mini buses to take tourists to the scenic spots of Mt. Wuyi (about
2 yuan).
Mt. Wuyi Holiday Area neighbors Mt. Wuyi Scenic
Spot so is convenient for tourists living in the holiday resort
to visit this beautiful mountain. The holiday area is about 8 kilometers
(about 5 miles) from Wuyi Shan Airport and 9 kilometers (about 5.6
miles) from Wuyi Shan Railway Station and 11 kilometers (about 6.8
miles) to Wuyi Shan downtown area.
An Air-conditioned express form Fuzhou, Xiamen
and Quanzhou to Wuyi Shan operates once a day and now you can get
to Wuyi Shan from Shanghai directly with a twice daily train service
from Shanghai to Fuzhou, Wuyi Shan is a stop on the line. The minibus
in Wuyi Shan Railway Station can take you to Mt. Wuyi Scenic Spot,
the cost can be negotiated (about 10 yuan), which is very reasonable.
If the train direct to Wuyi Shan is not available in your city,
tourists should take train pass by Zhaowu stop of Fujian Province
or Shangrao stop of Jiangxi Province, then a transfer bus at Zhaowu
(once per hour) or Shangrao (once per hour) to Wuyi Shan.
Also there are regular buses from Nanping and Shaowu
of Fujian Province and Shangrao of Jiangxi Province to Wuyi Shan
daily. On the way from Mt. Wuyi to Wuyi Shan, tourists can wave
down tourist buses to stop and pick them up.
Sights in Fuzhou City are splendid but refined.
If you are interested in the landscape of south China, Fuzhou City
is a good place to visit.
