Sanya
is the second largest city and is also an important communication hub
of the Hainan Province.
Sanya airport lies in the northwest of the city which is about 20 kilometers
(about 12 miles) from the urban district. Formally called
Sanya Fenghuang Airport (SYX), it is the largest international airport and
is the only airport servicing civil aircraft in southern Hainan.
Now there are nearly 100 flights traveling to and from almost every
major city in the country such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen,
Qingdao, Wuhan, Shenyang, and Nanjing, etc. In addition, international
airlines to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Seoul, Osaka, Tokyo, and
Inchon are now available in the airport. A smaller airliner flies to
Sanya from Haikou Meilan International Airport at 9:00am everyday. The Haikou Meilan International
Airport (HMA) airport provides Visa on Arrival for travelers landing
from abroad.
There are airdrome buses at the airport's exit to the city zone which
cost CNY 10. It will take approximately 30 minutes to reach the terminal
from the Main Bus Station in the city zone. The last run of the bus leaves
the airport 40 minutes after the arrival of the last plane, make sure
that you will not miss this bus. You can also take a taxi to the urban
area for a fare of about CNY 35. It is something worth mentioning to the
driver to choose the Binhai Lu route so as to appreciate the beautiful
sceneries of the seashore.
