Yesanpo Scenic Area

Yesanpo Scenic Area is located at the junction of Taihang Mountain and Yanshan Mountain (Laishui County) and is about 62 miles from Beijing. Yesanpo Scenic Area is a tranquil area filled with beautiful scenery. Covering an area of 201 square miles, it features six tourist resorts – Bailixia Canyon, Juma River Summer Resort, Fodongta Weird Springs and Caves Tourist Area, Longmen Tianguan Great Wall Conversation Zone, Baicaopan Virgin Forest Protection Area, and Jinhua Mountain. The 199 scenic spots embrace all kinds of natural beauty as well as human landscapes. Yesanpo Scenic Area is far more natural than other scenic areas, and offers a break from the influence of human activities.

Baili Canyon

In the southeastern portion of Yesanpo Scenic Area you will find three deep canyons which extend 130 miles. Together they are called "Baili Canyon", a name which describes the canyon as being over one-hundred miles long. The canyon is a natural gallery which depicts an imposing, unique and secluded picture. Visitors are awed by the succession of fascinating natural wonders. Many sights have been given names which depict their appearance. For example, Laohu Zui, or "Tiger's Mouth", is a huge intimidating rock. "A Gleam of Sky" is a seam between two hills, where at the narrowest point one can just barely squeeze through the two hills. Owing to its enchanting beauty, many large-scale TV series such as "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms", "Journey to the West" and "All Men Are Brothers" have chosen this place as one of their shooting locations.

Yugu Cave

Countless springs and caves are distributed along the Xiaoxi River, which is a branch of Juma River. Yugu Cave is a charming underground world which measures over 197 yards deep. The cave's stalactites form various lifelike stone statues. To the south, Yugu Spring bubbles year round, brining forth sweet, cool water. Around the periods of Guyu (one of the 24 Chinese solar periods) fish gush from the mouth of the spring – a phenomenon that attracts many visitors each year.

Juma River

Juma River twists and runs tirelessly throughout the year in Yesanpo Scenic Area. Along the river, the land presents a pastoral scene where you can see "Stone Monkey Plays in the Water", "Sand Boa Blocks the Way", and "Stone Gate Suddenly Open". Behind every charming sight is an exquisite legend. Due to its fantastic beauty, Juma River is often referred to as "Northern Guilin". When summer comes, tourists flock from far and near. In the daytime, they climb mountains, ride horses, boat, and swim. At night, campfire welcome visitors to parties filled with singing and dancing. Throughout the summer months, the banks of the Juma River overflow with the smells of barbecue and the sounds of laughter.

Longmen Tianguan Great Wall Conversation Zone

If you travel upstream along Xiaoxi River, you will enter the Longmen Tianguan Great Wall Conversation Zone. In ancient times, this area served as a vital line of communication and territory of military importance. Perilous cliffs poke into the sky, and clear murmuring streams wind through the valley. What an imposing sight it is! Many cultural relics are located here, such as Dalongmen Fortress, cliffside inscriptions and the Caishuan Great Wall.

Where to stay in Yesanpo Scenic Area?
I would like to visit Baili Gorge, Juma River rafting and Baicaopan this mid April. Where is a suitable place to stay to get easy access to these places? I have read about these villages - Gougezhuangcun, Sanpozhen, Shangzhuangzi. We do not have a car. Will need to depend on public transport around the area to get from place to place.
Thanx

You can stay at the folk houses near the entrance of the scenic area or in the villages mentioned above. I am sorry that the public transportation is not convenient there. You are advised to charter a car to shuttle from one to another scenic spot. Have a nice trip! :)

As far as I know, it's not easy to take a bus to Baishishan Scenic Area. So you are suggested to rent a private car or take a taxi to your destination.

Generally speaking, it's possible to hiking there in one day.

You can follow the route: Baili Gorge, Juma River, Baicaopan Virgin Foerest and Shidu.

I’m afraid there is no detailed map on the web, however, you can buy one at the ticket office of the scenic spot.
