Kunshan benefits from
its position on the routes of the Shanghai-Ningxia Railway and the
Shanghai-Ningxia Highway, as well as the No. 312 National Highway.
So, although the city does not have its own airport, the transportation
system provides a fast, convenient link with the two large international
airports in Shanghai. This has proved to be a vital ingredient in
the development of the city as both businessmen and tourists alike
can reach it within an hour from their incoming flights. Kunshan's
railway station and newly constructed bus station form a hub for
links with other parts of the country, especially the other cities
of Jiangsu Province. While the city itself and outlying suburbs
are served by some nineteen bus routes, regular bus services go
to nearby towns making it possible for visitors to travel around
the area with ease. However, not only are there excellent bus routes,
in common with other Chinese cities, Kunshan is served by more than
700 taxis, all of which are ready to speed people along their way.
The good road links mean that many tourists visit Kunshan by
car and this is particularly true during the season for crab fishing
on Yangcheng Lake, when vast numbers of people swarm into the
city. So, if you are planning a visit to Shanghai, why not rent
a car and drive over and see Kunshan for yourself?
