How about go to Suzhou? It enjoys the hight fame as Hangzhou, and just about 40 minutes from Shanghai by train. Oct. 30,2009 03:21 Mr.Leo replied:
It is not suggested that your take a taxi from airport to get to downtown Hangzhou. The fare is expensive. Actually, you could take the airport shuttle bus, which is in operation around the clock, to its terminal at Wulinmen in downtown Hangzhou. The Moganshan Road is very close to Wulinmen, so you could hire a cab here driving to your destination. In downtown Hangzhou, the drivers charge by meter honestly.

Hangzhou is about 2 hours drive from Xitang. My suggestion is that you can go to Xitang first from Shanghai (about 1.5 hours, I did early this year. If you have any other problems, I would like to help more.
Thanks so much! I thought Xitang is very near to Hangzhou. Is Xitang safe if we would like to stay one nite there. How long it takes to travel by bus from Xitang to Hangzhou?

It takes about two hours from Xitang to hangzhou. It is safe. There are also hotels in the scenic area, but not inside the town and along the river. If you travel alone without tour package, recommend you go in weekdays. You would not to pay for entrace fee in weekdays, for there are many lanes leading to enter the town, you need not to go through the main entrance.

No need to buy bus tickets in advance, just go buy current ticket on the spot. As to train ticket, there may be online agent but I never try. Shanghai is not far away from Nanjing. Do not need book in advance if it is not busy holidays. Usually you can buy the ticket of the same day.

If there is, the hotel which cost RM200/ per night is under what catergories? 4 star or 3 star? -Any good recommodation of travel spots in Hangzhou? -If we engaged with the travel agent, any good recommodation? are they include transport as well?

To Ms Sue: 1. the average temperaturs is lower than 11C. 2. RMB200 is under 3 star. It is the price for budget exonomical hotels. Refer to this: www.travelchinaguide.com/hotel/hangzhou-hotels.htm 3. Places to travel in Hangzhou: West Lake, Liuhe Pagoda, Xixi Wetland (perhaps winter is not a good season), Longyin Temple, cosider to have one to to visit some water town, Tongli or Xitang, or one day to Thousand Island Lake. 4. You can ask the agent to sent car. You should make a inquiry to the agency.

Which city is better for making US sizes and which city produces more international designs? 4. lastly, how much usually will i be charged for a short summer dress/ silk blouse?
Oct. 15,2009 02:53 Ms.Sisley replied:
Difficult to say whether Hangzhou or Suzhou is better. In Hangzhou, there is a place called China Silk City (中国丝绸城), which is a street selling various kinds of silk products. I think you could have a try there. It is very close to the Wulin Square. In Suzhou, you could find many silk shops around these attractions, such as the Humble Administrator's Garden. No matter where you purchase goods, please remember to bargain the price.
For tailors, I think you could go to Suzhou, such as these ones at Guanqian Street and Huqiu. Usually, at these silk shops, you could find a tailor, too! A summer dress may costs you about 300~500RMB, including silk and tailor fare.
Oct. 16,2009 03:42 Ms.agnes(hangzhou) replied:
to be a hangzhou guide,i can not easy to tell you about silk where is good. in suzhou, silk have long history . bout you can see, all of the world, about 80% silk is in china, among them, about 60% is come from zhejiang, hangzhou is must for the best.

Dear Mr. James,
Thanks for your infomation. How do I book the train and bus ticket in advance? Is there any website or should I book from travel agency in M'sia? I need to get train ticket to Shanghai and bus ticket to Nanjing.

Mr.James replied:
No need to buy bus tickets in advance, just go buy current ticket on the spot. As to train ticket, there may be online agent but I never try. Shanghai is not far away from Nanjing. Do not need book in advance if it is not busy holidays. Usually you can buy the ticket of the same day.

We are from Malaysia and plan to Hangzhou in Dec 09. We (2 adult and 1 child) will spend 5 days 4 nights over there. There are few questions as below :
- we know that it will be winter in Dec, but roughly how cold is the weather? about 11 or 12 degree?
- we would spend our whole trip in Hangzhou..any good recommation of hotel? roughly how much of it? is there any hotel cost RM200/ per night? If there is, the hotel which cost RM200/ per night is under what catergories? 4 star or 3 star?
-Any good recommodation of travel spots in Hangzhou?
-If we engaged with the travel agent, any good recommodation? are they include transport as well?

Ms.Cindy replied:
To Ms Sue:
1. the average temperaturs is lower than 11C.
2. RMB200 is under 3 star. It is the price for budget exonomical hotels.
Refer to this:
www.travelchinaguide.com/hotel/hangzhou-hotels.htm

Hi!, I wish to visit Hangzhou, Shanghai and Nanjing next year Chinese New Year ( 16 Feb 2010). Is it ok to go to these destination during CNY? I am don't know if shops and tourist spots will be close.
Oct. 18,2009 04:26
Mr.James replied:
Attractions will not closed during this period, perhaps it is a problem for transportation. Before the CNY, people rushed home and after that rush out. Suggest you book the ticket in advance. It is not a bad idea to have a Chinese New Year in China, anyway.
Enjoy~

I am visiting Hangzhou in Dec 09. Will be taking a train from Shanghai to Hangzhou. Is there any personal day tour of Hangzhou (4 person) services available at the Hangzhou train station?
Oct. 18,2009 01:45
Mr.Jamie replied:
That's no reliable, I think. Look for some big travel agency to have a one-day tour. In Hangzhou, one day is just enough to get around the West Lake and some busy places at night. You can just take a taxi (4 seats) to get around.

Please, I will be in Hangzhou next week for 2 weeks and I have the following questions:
1. Where is it better to buy silks/ satins? Is it in Hangzhou or suzhou or Huzhou?
2.Where are the good tailors for women's clothes; huzhou or hangzhou/suzhou?
3. Which city is better for making US sizes and which city produces more international designs?
4. lastly, how much usually will i be charged for a short summer dress/ silk blouse?
Oct. 15,2009 02:53
Ms.Sisley replied:

Ms.agnes(hangzhou) replied:
to be a hangzhou guide,i can not easy to tell you about silk where is good. in suzhou, silk have long history . bout you can see, all of the world, about 80% silk is in china, among them, about 60% is come from zhejiang, hangzhou is must for the best.

I will be traveling to Hangzhou for business later this month, and will have 1 day free for sightseeing. Any suggestions on a 1 day itinerary for an English-speaking visitor? I do not, unfortunately, speak / read Chinese.
Thanks.

Mr.Leo replied:
I think you could spend the day in visiting the West Lake and the sceneries around it, which is large enough for one-day tour. Well, you could read the introduction of the West Lake on http://www.travelchinaguide.com/attraction/zhejiang/hangzhou/west_lake.htm
