Hi,
I will be going to Shanghai from 9th Dec to 16th Dec period. Heard that the weather will be very cold at this time. Will a woollen sweater and jeans sufficient for travelling? Are food and products in Shanghai very pricey as compared to Singapore? How much do we have to spend for a meal there? Any suggestions? Thanks

Nov. 16,2009 21:20
Mr.LEOSTAR(United States) replied:

Yes, it will be cold here. Please wear wollen sweater and overcoat. It is difficult to say whether the good price in Shanghai is more expensive or not. The food should be cheaper if you eat at a local restaurant. The goods in these top class department stores should be expensive, but this is the same all over the world. But, these goods for daily life is reasonable. You could have a good meal there with CNY20~30/adult. Of course, you could find many nice restaurants as well, costing CNY200~300.

Hi,

Can I check if the shopping areas (the major shopping centres) and restaurants in Nanjing Road and Xin Tian Di will be opened from the 2nd day of Chinese New Year in 2010?

Also, will the popular food street markets be opened as well during this period? I am planning a trip to Shanghai, arriving on 2nd day of the CNY for the whole week but friends have been warning me that it will be super crowded and that most places shops and restaurants will be closed during this period.

Thanks.

Nov. 16,2009 04:53
Mr.Norman replied:

Yes, it is crowded during the New Year. Major shopping malls and food streets. They will be only close early in New Year's Eve. The food street, such as Chenghuangmiao (City God Temple beside Yuyuan Garden) is very busy and crowded that day.

It will be the cold and wet winter in Shanghai. You'd better wear warm sweater and overcoat. You could do shopping along the Nanjing Road, or around the People's Square, such as the Huaihai Road and Shaanxi South Road. Or, you may be interested in visiting the fashion markets in Qipu Road. But, I'm afraid that you couldn't find the summer clothes.

Nov. 4,2009 21:22
Mr.Sandy replied:

I haven't got exact news about the New Year Countdown and fireworks this year. Xintiandi must have and Longhua Temple had last year. Time Square in Nanjing Road with large LED screen May also have. In the Bund, it is best place to see the nightscape with river, city lights and fireworks. You should pay attention to Xintiandi and Time Square (Shidai Guangchang) in Nanjing Road.

Hello! How do I get to Zhujiajiao from Nanjing Road/People's Park area? Can it be reach by subway or just by taxi? And how much is the transportation to reach there? Also, what's the opening time for Zhujiajiao and how much is the entrance?

Nov. 3,2009 21:14
Ms.Cindy replied:

Zhujiajiao is far away from the city center and the cost on taxt is huge. The special line to Zhujiajiao can be found in Dagu Road, near the cross of Dagu Road and Lao Chengdu Road, near the People's park, but it is maybe not easy for you to find. It is in the northwest corner of Yan'an East Road Bridge. You can take a taxi and told the driver that you are going to take 沪青专线 at 大沽路. You will be Zhujiajiao Bus Station one hour later and walk 5 minutes to the old town. The bus fare is 6 or 8 yuan, I don't remember clearly.

Nov. 4,2009 03:11
Ms.SHANGHAITOURGUIDE(China) replied:

the cost taking taxi from shanghai city to zhoujiajiao is around RMB 350-380 around trip, including toll-gate fees. For more info. pls feel free to contact me
