Hi there, my partner and I are planning to travel to Harbin in January 2010. I have a few questions that I hope someone could help me with.. How many days would you recommend for my trip.. Do you think 5 days is enough? We plan to leave around 8th Jan, however if it opens on the 5th is that something we should be there to see? I know there are many russians that travel there, could you tell me if the orthodox christmas celebration is big in Harbin on the 7th on January? Also, if we fly to Beijing, is it safe to fly to Harbin from there? or is it safer to catch a train? Can anyone recommend some hotel to stay in while we visit? THANKYOU for your help.. :)
Oct. 21,2009 21:04 Ms.Melissa(China) replied:
I have to say that travelling winter Harbin is a wise and nice choice. 5 days is enough, but 7 days won't be long either if you want a thorough explore. Ice and Snow Festival is something you should not give a miss. Harbin boasts an orthodox structure, St.Sophia Church. You can spend your time there or at Central Street on Christmas. You can either take flight or train from Beijing to Harbin. For hotels, you may check Shangri-la Hotel Harbin, Heilongjiang Kunlun Hotel, or Join Us Plaza Hotel, Harbin. This website may help with your hotel booking: http://www.travelchinaguide.com/hotel/harbin-hotels.htm hope this helps and wish you have a good time in Harbin.
It's absolutely safe to fly from Bjs to Harbin (hrb), take morning flight where weather phenomenon is minimised. % days is in HRB, you can plan to enjoy skiing in Yabuli 300 km away HRB, many good sight seeing in HRB check on the net.
Nov. 3,2009 21:35 Mr.Peter(Australia) replied:
I think there are direct flights from Australia to Haerbin. But if you want to travel from Beijing to Haerbin, you might want to try the 250km/h high speed "D" trains, they take only 8 hours to cover the 1,300 km. See more of the country that way. A train leaves just after 7am in the morning, there's a foreign ticket window at Beijing station. Go 1st Class, it will cost you between 300 - 400rmb from memory.( AUD80.00 ) app.
