Ms.Sisley replied:

hi, maybe my tour line there could help you:
Day 1: Chenghuangmiao-->Yuyuan Garden-->shopping in Huaihai Road->Portman Acrobatic Show at night/Xintiandi for Shanghai nightlife

Day 2: Shanghai Museum->Nanjing Road (visiting&shopping)->The Bund->across the Huangpu River to visit Oriental Pearl Tower->view in modern Pudong

Traveling in China is safe now, so need no need to worry about H1N1 too much!

do we need to negotiate for price before broading any of the taxi in shanghai?
how much is it for pudong airport to east nanjing lu?

Jun. 1,2009 22:31
Mr.Qi replied:

No need to negotiate, it is metered. Just choose good-looking and reliable cab with clear 'Taxi' sign. Generally speaking, Shanghai taxi is canonical. No exception for some long routes that allow price negotiatioin. From the airport to East Nanjing Rd will cost you CNY150 for 40 km. Good Luck.

How far is it from the International port cruise terminal to Nanjing Road?

Are there taxis available at the cruise terminal?

May. 27,2009 03:59
Ms.Jeans replied:

Well, the Nanjing Road could be reached from the terminal within 20 minutes on foot, very close to each other. Yes, taxi is available there. The fare should be around 20yuan.

Nanjing Road is not bad for shopping but, frankly speaking, you can find all those shops around the city! Nothing special! But it's just fun to walk there, even buying nothing! And for sure you should visit it at night! And if you are a lazy bone you can take a ride for only 2RMB along it...

Nanjing Road can be a less than expected experience if you do not have a guide with you. In all fairness it is no longer legal to have small booths along the route so a lot of people were displaced by being required to have a storefront which is much more expensive. This was my experience at the train station as well as Nanjing Road. So, they follow you all the way down the (what should be an exciting) walk to the point of pestering you with leaflets. Most of them will leave you alone if you outright ignore them, but show even just the slightest bit of interest and you are fair game and could get bombarded. I did not want to have to deal with them as they are pretty much everywhere there are tourists so we took the trolly ride, which was nice, to the far end to meet our driver there for the ride back. Just the act of getting out of the trolley car got us a girl who would not understand "NO". We were trying to take a picture and asked her to please step aside which she did but just as soon as it was done she was back in my sisters face with her damn leaflet. My sister finally looked her and said "I said NO". Her (obvious) little sidekick male friend stepped in and said to my sister. "You picky on her I picky on you". He did not realize that we were with a guide a 25 year blackbelt. I glared at him and addressed my guide and asked if we could please leave. The guide quickly ushered us in to a hotel lobby and out the back way to the van. But that was enough to leave a bad taste of Shanghai. While all the lights are beautiful the REAL China is not to be found there. It has gotten too big. The best China experience was still in Beijing, Nanjing and Tongli. Other than that one negative experience everything else was great.

Mr.John(Netherlands) replied:

Best way is to ignore hawkers, don't say anything, don't look at them, keep on walking and turn to the other side. If they keep on following you, head in a shop or store where the guard will stop them.

Shanghai has gotten much worse in the last 2 years, now they even have east europeans/russians selling drugs in the pedestrian part of Nanjing road.

Many hotels accessible in Nanjing Road. A friend of mine (from America)jion a tour of TCG and you can search the hotel you what. Every hotel is attached with some comments. Perhaps,it is helpful!

Qipu Lu is the best place to buy clothes in Shanghai. Clothes of different price levels can be found there. Well, remember to negotiate the price.
