So, Indonesia to Meizhou?! Fly to Guangzhou and take bus to Meizhou through Meihe Expressway (4 hours). Good Luck. It is not farmilar for us to know the Hakka clans. It seems too many and hard to find any versions in Chinese.

you can fly to Guangzhou, from there take a local flight (China Southern has daily flights)to Meizhou (moi yan in hakka dialect) airport. It will help if your mother can speak some hakka. Hakka people are helpful and you won't get lost. Like any where in China, Mandarin is spoken freely and if you don't speak Mandarin then it would be more convenient if you can have the name of your clan, address, name of hotel and address/phone written clearly in Chinese on a piece of paper. By showing this to the taxi driver or anyone else in Meizhou it will be understood. Good luck and have a safe journey.

If any person is curious about your ancestors or where your Parents or Grandparents came from ? Spend some of your rainy-day money by visiting your ancestors' place of residence or areas where they were brought-up[raised] before you reach 65 years old . Why before that age ? It is the weak legs or physically-weak[health-wise] that will stop any person considering travelling to any strange or unknown place . Visiting your ancestors place of residence or the area-farm,village,town or city might turn out to be a BLESSING to you .

I am thinking of conducting some research on Hakka people (I am one of them). In order to limit the scope of my work and keep it manageable, I would like first to start work on the history of Meizhou City the heartland of the Hakka people. Any idea where I can get the material for research and is there anyone interested in collaborating on this project?

Hi Robert, I too have keen interest in researching more about Hakka history starting from my own Lee family in moi yan (Meizhou). Although I'm was born overseas, I can still speak decent hakka..proud to say! If all goes well I hope to join my mom and 3 other siblings currently visiting in Moi Yan. Through my mom (who is 80 yrs) I like to get to know some of my relatives especially the other generations who I'm sure has plenty of stories from the cultural revolution days!

I think that you should have had a good memory staying in this hotel: one of the several must-go tourist sites in MZ. Pity is that it situes a little bit far away the downtown: less than one hour's driving.
