No train. You can take airport bus station to Haikou Jinjiadun Bus Station, or anywhere near Hankou Railway Station. Then take a taxi to the hotel.
Total fare: about 30RMB
You can take a taxi from the airport to Shangri-La, 25 km or so.

Hi,

I read it in a guidebook that China Eastern Airlines has a bus service from Wuhan Airport to their Hankou office (it's near the bus station or train station?). Is this really true? What time the buses leave the airport and how long does it take to get to the train station in Hankou?

Thank you,

Aug. 24,2009 22:04
Ms.Jasmine replied:

It was free but now it costs about 15RMB. These buses are single trip (from Hankou to the airport), you can only take airport shuttle bus from the airport to downtown Wuhan.

T176, it needs 13 hours around, the price is about 281 yuan for hard sleeper. It leaves at 19:50 and arrives at 8:50.
K556, needs about 18 hours. It leaves at 15:00 and arrives at 9:17.
Its fare is 290 yuan for hard sleeper.

Hi,

I am going to arrive to Wuhan airport at 21:00 and my train is going to leave from Wuchang train station at 23:00. Is there any bus transportatian to take me to Wuchang in time to catch my train?

Thank you in advance,
Cecil

Aug. 11,2009 22:59
Mr.Frank replied:

There is no direct bus could drive you to the railway station from Wuhan Airport. So, you'd better tale a taxi to reach there since your time is also urgently. The taxi to the railway station will take about one hour on the way and the fare is about 80RMB~100RMB.
Ps: the taxi driver will not use meter so you have to bargain a good price

Hi! we are a team of 15 students coming to Wuhan for the Total Solar Eclipse expedition. I would like to know the best possible open sites in Wuhan for observing & conducting some experiments during this eclipse. We'll be in Wuhan from 19th-23rd July.

Does it rain too much in July, what sort of clothing would you advise.
Also I would like to know the frequency of buses & trains from Wuhan to Shanghai, cost & time required for the journey...
Please do advise me.
Thank You!!

Jun. 5,2009 04:07
Ms.Evelyn(China) replied:

Wuhan is made up of Hankou, Wuchang and Hanyang. You can go to Hankou and watch the solar eclipse on the area along the Yangtze River, called Jiang Tan (汉口江滩) in Chinese.
July is usually very hot. Sometimes, it rains, but not very frequently. You should prepare some clothes for summer.
Within a day, there are three bullet trains from Hankou Railway station to Shanghai at 07:55, 11:17 and 17:07. Although Wuchang Railway Station also provides trains to Shanghai, the trains are not fast. So, I suggest you choose Hankou Railway Station. Only more than 5 hours is spent by bullet train.
The bullet train ticket costs CNY304/ CNY254. You are suggested to purchase the train tickets in advance.

Jul. 20,2009 18:40
Mr.Wenuti(Austria) replied:

Hello !
I'm currently in Suzhou, and would like to get to Wuhan as quickly as possible to see the eclipse there. Weather forecast is much better for Wuhan.
How do i get from Suzhou to Wuhan ? Or even better to Hankou as suggested for eclipse wachting
(Came here from PVG by bus)

Jul. 20,2009 22:10
Mr.James replied:

Take Airport Bus to Shanghai Railway Station to catch the bullet trains to Hankou. I do not know your time to be in PVG. There are four trains: D3002 (6:42-12:21), D3006(14:06-16:59), D3010 (15:59-21:02) and D3014 (16:38-22:43). If you miss them, just take flight to Wuhan from Shanghai directly.

Hi, I'm going to Wuhan Uni for a short course on the 17th-24th October 2009. Which is the nearest city/airport to Wuhan as there is no direct flight from KLIA(Kuala Lumpur International Airport)to Wuhan where I may need a train/coach to transit to Wuhan? How is the weather in Wuhan during October month. Thanks.

May. 12,2009 01:39
Mr.Qi replied:

Generally, Wuhan is still warm in Octobet and the real cold winter comes at late October. The weather there is changeable. People wear shirt in September and early October. Take a light sweater in case of bad weather or if you will stay intil late October. As there is no direct flight, you should make a transfer at Shanghai or Guangzhou, and then transfer to trains to Wuhan.

May. 12,2009 21:19
Mr.Doourado(China ) replied:

airasia offer cheap flights from KL to destinations in China not Wuhan though. You should be able to get cheap connecting flights.

Jun. 4,2009 20:41
Mr.Tomy replied:

Actually, five days is too long for visiting Wuhan, so you could slow down and enjoy this city leisurely. Well, here are some suggestions of mine:
The Yellow Crane Tower->Jianghan Road (visiting & shopping)->Donghu Park
Guishan Park->Guiyuan Temple->Hanzheng Street (snack)
Jiangtan Park->Wuhan University
It seems that you still have some time left, so you could explore this city easily.

Wuhan is my wife's home town so, as I am an American and travelling to China for the first time, I had no idea what to expect. I was blown away. The city is massive and the taxi rides are NUTS (as has been said before) but worth the ride. I would visit the Yellow Crane Tower, take a river ride across the Yangtze, check out the old Buddhist temple in town and go to the room with 500 Buddha’s, go see Wuhan University and check out East Lake while you’re there too. There are not too many Western people in Wuhan, at least not when I was there in early April. In fact, I was asked by two ladies to have my picture taken with them. It made me laugh, but it also helped me to understand how genuine and real the Chinese are. The weather was great, but late March - early April is the time to go. According to my wife, if you go any later, it's hot and humid and rains like crazy later on in the year. If you are going to China, yes check out Beijing, but I highly recommend getting out of the North and checking out other towns. You will not know the real China unless you do.

I spent about 10 days there last September...I have no ability in Mandarin, but my friend I traveled with is Chinese from Wuhan...I found the flavor of Wuhan quite different than Kunming, Guilin, Liuzhou, Beijing and all the other small towns I have visited...yes, the cab drivers are without a doubt the most unpredictable I have ever seen! Show your sense of adventure and take one during rush hour...it will be memorable to say the least!! Westerners are not common there, and many may stare, so what...I enjoy the attention!! The city is older then the others, yet has a feeling to it of chaos, but, in a friendly way...if you wish to relax...sit on a bench and watch the world of Wuhan go by...apartments are cheap if you know the right person to deal for you...
300-500yuan per month should be plenty, depending where you stay and how far from work you live...winters are chilly and heat is scarce though...an electric blanket is keenly advised...the summers are hot! Wuhan is known as a hot pot of China...and also known for the nine-headed bird people that live there!!...This is not an insult...you will see!!! ESL teachers are paid 4000yuan or more there...per month, do your homework and chat with others there thatw work, much different perks from one company to the next...and...beware of the nine-headed bird!!!...I did enjoy Wuhan much, it was my favorite of stories that I tell...but it is different, if you have champagne taste...maybe you should go to Shanghai instead!!!

Apr. 2,2009 00:40
Mr.tbone(china) replied:

good post except the 300-500 rmb for a house... no way unless u want a 1room place with no shower, western toilet, security, kitchen, AC/heater, view, bed, tv, ect... spend 800 for small but somewhat modern place, 1000 for a big old place, or 1200 for small modern/ furnished place

My wife and I moved to Wuhan from Canada a year ago and are enjoying the city and the culture.

If you are visiting from abroad and want to mingle with the locals, Mr. Mai's Coffee House and Foreign Language Club in Wuchang is a great place to visit. You can enjoy brick-oven fired pizza in Gianno's restaurant on the first floor and then walk upstairs to Mr. Mai's. As soon as you take a seat, you will be approached by numerous locals that will ask to join you to practice their English.

Another great site to visit is the Wuhan Botanical Gardens, a 70 hectare showcase of central China's plant life. There are also numerous special displays such as medicinal herbs and a huge bamboo garden.

Mo Mountain is another nice place to spend a few hours. There are many walking trails and free heritage music and dance shows every day at the display center at the top of the hill. You can walk up or be pulled up in a small cart. How you come back down is up to you; walk the trail or ride the cart down a mountain track to the bottom at breakneck speed!

Tailor Street or Yan Zhi Lu is another wonderful place to spend a couple of hours. The street is lined with clothing shops. You can buy off the rack but if you are around for long enough, you can get anything you want tailor made and come back and pick it up at a later date.

The local food is incredible but if you are longing for Western menus, check out Cafe Brussels or the Aloha Diner. The former offers great steaks and a large selection of international beers. The latter has great hamburgers and fries, real milkshakes, and Tex-Mex food along with a variety of standard American meals.

Wuhan is not a tourist city, a little rough around the edges, and probably has some of the craziest drivers in the world (its worth a taxi ride just for the experience) but you will enjoy it immensely.

Mr.Gila(Austrlaia) replied:

Hi,
great to read your story. What I would like to know is: How expensive is it to live in Wuhan, cost of apartments(buying). Howmuch do schools pay ESL teachers? What is the weather like. IS it very poluted. Is it historical?

Hope to hear from you.

I learned a lot from your comment. I have some questions about job there. How easy to beacome an ESL and also Do English schools provide working visa if you work there?DO they have good transportation system? Thank you in advance for answering my questions.

Apr. 2,2009 00:36
Mr.tbone(China) replied:

Very easy to find a job here... a good school will work out the visa/house for you... the city(10 million ppl) is one of the cheapest in the country.. a taxi starts at 3rmb(40cents) dinner can be as cheap as 2rmb(30cents)... great night life here.. some of the most beautiful women in the world... still really backward with a real china feel.. the summer is hotter than hell(40 degrees) winter is nothing(if you come from Canada like me)
