What I don't understand is *why* he had this terracotta army. What was the purpose?
Unsure how much Shi Huang really cared for art (snicker).

Nov. 6,2009 19:54
Mr.ANDY2008(China) replied:

The Fisrt Qin Emperor is a complete tyrant, who believed in violence, so he wanted to maintain his power in another world with a strong army. If there are Atom-bomb, the Fisrt Qin Emperor were more likely to be keen to own some.

I'd like to read this translated book, too. I've become curious about Chinese history,
only partly due to "Curse of the Dragon Emperor" (which I'm watching right now) and also
"Hero" (Jet Li, the chosen assassin). which *really* got it going. I've a hunch "Hero" was about the same period.

Aug. 3,2009 20:15
Mr.Jack(australia) replied:

in hero the person jet li is trying to assasinate is Qin Shu Huang

Oct. 22,2009 01:21
Mr.helper replied:

thanks... that was really good... that so cool how he was assanated

Nov. 2,2009 08:09
Mr.prophet(usa) replied:

it is also interesting to see the extravigance in these stories that the emperors spared no expense in getting what they wanted. and how these legends were so widely believed is what scared people to follow him. i also enjoy those movies and jet li is the emperor in cusre of the dragon emperor

things are always possible !

Oct. 31,2009 20:06
Mr.Chan(USA) replied:

i dont think they necessarily OPENED it yet...
but i do know they're already in the tomb area trying to find the actual coffin itself, cuz there is a airborne poison that is enclosed in the structure, thats y often, the diggers there constantly get sick and die

In Ap World History, we learned that Qin Shihuangdi was a strict follower of Legalist ideas. This made him very unpopular among his subjects. I found this very interesting.

Oct. 21,2009 21:38
Mr.ANDY2008(China) replied:

The law, which the First Qin Emperor were keen on and stick to, is totally form the concept of a civilized law. the First Qin Emperor legilated the laws which only aimed to benefit himeself while a modern law made by a parliament in a civilized country is in every citizen's favour.

Oct. 22,2009 21:55
Mr.MatteMo(U.S.) replied:

i found this very interesting, too!

Oct. 27,2009 23:48
Ms.Saavedra(California) replied:

I learned that too in AP World History as well.

Oct. 30,2009 10:50
Ms.Wigglesworth(Untied States) replied:

also in history, Qin Shi Huang appointed government officials, called censors, to make sure government officials did their jobs !
-This is also very interesting

You mean chinese family with surname "Shi"? I don't think they are closed or related. The family name of Qinshihuang is "Ying" rather than "Shi". He should be related, if any, to those with surname "Ying"

Do you agree with his philosophy of "A thousand may die so that a million may live"? On one hand, although thousands died in the building of the Great Wall, thousnads more of lives were prbably saved during later wars.

Oct. 12,2009 19:56
Mr.Qing replied:

It sounds reasonable, but what if you are among those so called a thousand died? Are you willing to die first for the safty of later people?
