We're arriving Beijing Sunday afternoon (Oct 11), leaving Thursday noon (Oct 15). Our planned itinerary is MONDAY (Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City), TUESDAY (Great Wall, Ming Tomb, Sacred Way). We will be staying at Holiday Inn Express Beijing Temple of Heaven in Xuanwu District. What is the best way for us to travel to the sites mentioned above? Will our schedule still allow us to see the Summer Palace and Beijing Zoo?

Oct. 9,2009 03:36
Mr.Herry replied:

You can take subway to Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City behind it. For Great Wall, Ming Tomb and others, you can take bus. If you can finish your plan on Monday and Tuesday, then you can visit Summer Palace and Beijing Zoo on Wednesday. Actually, you can rearrange your schedule as Sunday afternoon and Thursday morning can also be included so than you will not be tried and hurried.

Hi, I will be spending 1 week in Beijing from 26 Oct. Could you please help me to plan a comprehensive daily itinerary so that I can cover as much of the places of interest as possible. Please also give me a list of good and cheap places to taste the local flavours (places where the local go). Thank you very much.

Oct. 5,2009 22:18
Ms.Emma replied:

Here are some Beijing tours which may help you to arrange your one-day trip there. http://www.travelchinaguide.com/package/beijing.htm
Beijing has many place to see and and one day is indeed insufficient.
Here are a collections of shopping places in Beijing:
http://www.traavelchinaguide.com/cityguides/beijing/shopping.htm
To taste local food, I recommend Wangfujing Snack Street and Longfusi Snack market. For more, you can see:http://www.travelchinaguide.com/cityguides/beijing/dinning/snackstreet.htm

Mr.willie(canada) replied:

I just got back from Beijing...every part of it is wonderful. Every hotel has tours running, but there is also tours outside the hotels ...much cheaper. Take one day for every place you go. Do not take two tours in one day...completely exhausting.
Must do...The Wall, Myuntiang, The Forbidden City, Summer Palace,
The Temple of Heaven.
Good advice for food...if the restaurant is full of locals, it is good. So many good places to eat. And cheap. See the markets, even if you don't buy. Very many cheap things to purchase....make sure you bargain. They are asking far too much money and will settle for a cheap price....enjoy! China is beautiful.

Sep. 21,2009 21:14

Hi, you can first take Subway Line 1 from Tian'anmen East to Gongzhufen (passing 7 stops) and then take Yuntong 108 Bus from Gongzhufenbei to Xiyuan (passing 13 stops). Now you reach Summer Palace.

I'll be coming to Beijing next month & will stay @ Chongwenmen. Which is the fastest way to get to Summer Palace & Yuanmingyuan? By subway or bus? Does the subway stops at the entrance of Summer Palace? If yes, which entrance does the subway stop at? Thank you.

Sep. 11,2009 01:48
Mr.Norm replied:

Hi, at present there is no subway running to Yiheyuan or Yuanmingyuan. Good news is that Beijing Subway Line 4 including these two stops will put into use since Spe.28. THAT IS TO SAY, you can take Line 2 from Chongwenmen to Xuanwumen and transfer to Line 4 from Xuanwumen to Yuanmingyuan or Beigongmen (North Gate of the Summer Palace).

Sep. 11,2009 03:15
Ms.Jade replied:

Mr.Norm. From Yuanmingyuan, how can I get to the Olympic stadium & Water Cube? By subway or taxi? Thank you.

Sep. 11,2009 04:38
Mr.Norm replied:

Three options for you to choose:
1> Taxi, CNY30
2> Subway, CNY2, 2 transfers. first take subway line 4 from Yuanmingyuan to Haidianhuangzhuang, then transfer to line 10 from Haidianhuangzhuang to Beitucheng, at last take line 8 from Beitucheng to Olympic Sports Center
3> Bus, CNY 1.5, Bus No.696 from the south gate of Yuanmingyuan to Asia Game Village (passing 9 stops)

Sep. 11,2009 05:24
Ms.Jade replied:

Mr.Norm. Is the Asia Game Village same place as the Olympic Sports Center?
Which mode of transport is faster - subway or taxi? Thank you.

Sep. 11,2009 20:40
Mr.Norm replied:

There are near each other. But subway don't extend to Asia Games Village. Just take taxi. It will cost around CNY10.

Sep. 14,2009 23:48
Ms.Jade replied:

After the Bird Nest, which is the best route to return to Wangfujing? Thank you.

Sep. 18,2009 02:42

What is the transport & how do I go to Summer Palace from Dongjiaominxiang Hotel at No. 23A Dongjiaominxiang, Dongcheng District, Beijing? How many entrances are there at the palace and which is the best entrance to to in?

Aug. 11,2009 04:35
Ms.Melissa(cn) replied:

Hi,Ms.Emily
Dongjiaominxiang Hotel is just 5 minutes' walk from Qianmen. You can take bus 826 at Qianmen and get off at the teminal station which is the Summer Palace. Some say the Summer Palace has four gates, some say more. But Eastern Palace Gate is the best and main entrance.

Aug. 11,2009 11:13
Ms.Emily(Malaysia) replied:

Thank you Ms. Emily, but why is bus 826 not mentioned under the Bus Route in Travel China Guide? Only mentioned are 907, 375, 801, 808, 732, 394 & 718.
What is the frequency of the bus 826 from Qainmen and when I come back, do I take the same bus No.? Will it be easier to take subway to avoid traffic jam? Any subway going there?

Aug. 11,2009 20:05
Ms.Melissa(cn) replied:

Hello,Emily
all those bus routes mentioned in TCG definitely lead to the Summer Palace, but since yout tell me your hotel, i find an exact one for you which they, by any chance, may not include.
Actually no subway is directing to the Summer Palace, and there involve a lot of route interchanges if you take subway. It is good that i've found a direct bus route 690 that starts exactly from Qianmen to the Summer Palace with only 23 stops. hopes this helps

Aug. 12,2009 01:21
Ms.Emily(Malaysia) replied:

Thanks Ms.Melissa. But sorry I still need to confirm about this bus no. 826 and direct bus route 690 if there are the same thing...that is 826 is the bus no. and 690 is the bus route.
What is the frequency of the bus and how long does the bus ride take to arrive at summer palace?
Coming back from Summer Palace, do I take the same bus no?
Appreciate your kind advice!

Aug. 12,2009 21:29
Ms.Melissa(cn) replied:

Hello again Emily
Sorry for the confusion i've made. 826 and 690 are all bus no. They have different routes, bus 690 runs directly from Qianmen to the Summer Palace while bus 826 runs longer distance, including the part from Qianmen to the Summer Palace.
The bus runs every 15-20 minutes and it takes 1 and a half hour to 2 hours to get to the Summer Palace
The same bus starting from the summer palace will definitely bring you back to Qianmen. Am I Clear? :)

Aug. 12,2009 22:49
Ms.Emily(Malaysia) replied:

Hi Melissa,

I totally understand you now..well & clear. Once again ..thank you!

Aug. 12,2009 21:52
Ms.Cecilia(cn) replied:

Hi,NAUZAD
At Beijing South railway station, this is a bus "Te5" running to the Summer palace directly.
As for the metro, there is no metro station around the summer palace, you can take bus 801 or 683 from the summer palace to Dabeiyaonan which is around Guomaozhongxin.
