We, 2 adults 10 yr old child will be in Hong Kong for 5 nights, arriving & departing at the airport. We want to catch the train from the airport to Yaumatei by changing lines at Lai King, would we have to pay again when changing lines. Would it be better to just go through to Kowloon Station? How much is the airport train journey?
Which of the Octopus cards would be best to allow travel on buses, trains & ferries. Can you use Octopus to go on buses around Hong Kong Island including the Ding Dong bus & to Ocean Park? How much are the short train rides or buses in Kowloon or on HK island? How much are the ferry trips from Kowloon to HK Island? Thanks

Mr.Shan replied:

Hi Edge, there is a mistake that you couldn't change from Airport Express to Tsuen Wan Line at Lai Ling. There is no connection between them. So, the easiest way that you take the Airport Express to Kowloon firstly. If you come to HK before 2010, it just takes you 190HK$ to take the Airport Express, saving 80HK$.

Get off at Kowloon station, you could hire a taxi driving you to Yau Ma Tei directly with reasonable charge.

You could purchase the regular Octopus Cards, which could be used widely, including bus, subway and ferry, shops~ You could use the Star Ferry from Kowloon to HK Island. The detailed infor could be searched at http://www.starferry.com.hk/

Hello,

I have upcoming trip to Hongkong this Oct 2 and I would like to know the minimum tips for drivers, restaurant, - if I could just get an estimate.

Ms.Sisley replied:

As I know, some restaurants charge 10% service charge, so customers could leave another 5%tips. If not, it is kind to leave 10% of your bill as tips. But, tips is not required at these fast-food restaurant or tea cafe. As for taxi drivers, you could leave proper tips in terms of your will. Hope this helps!

Hi

There are 3 of us spending 5 days in Hong Kong - 2 adults and 1 child under 3. Do we need to buy an octopus card for each adult or can we use one and swipe it twice when on the bus or ferry?

Thankyou

Mr.Hank replied:

I'm afraid that you have to buy one for each of you. And, the child could enjoy higher discount than adult.

Hi, I will be arrived HK at 27.08 (from Macau) & I will be going back on 30.08 via HK airport. Sould I get the Sold Octopus Card (Airport Express One Free Single Journey 3 days unlimited travel on MTR - HK220)? Where can I get the card when I arrived HK (at HK Ferry station)? If I get the card on 27.08 afternnon, unlimited travel MTR on 30.8 morning still valid?

Aug. 19,2009 01:48
Ms.Liz replied:

If you buy the Airport Express Travel Pass, you can only use it to take MTR. It is economical if you spend over 30HKD every day. In fact there are many modes of transportation in Hong KOng, such as light rail, city bus and ferry. If you do not have to much places to go, suggest you buy ordinary card and pay for 100HKD which is enough for your three days there. It can be bought in Sheung Wan Subway Station after you get out of the ferry terminal.

Mr.Shan replied:

Hi, if you would like to include a return-trip to the airport by the Airport Express (sold 90/100HK$ for one-way), you could purchase the travelers' Octopus Car which is sold 300HK$ and you could take HK MTR unlimited in 3 days.

If you don't take the Airport Express, I think a 150HK$ Octopus Card is okay. You children could enjoy the half-price!
