For the Tourist Special Smart Card; is 3days meaning valid for 72hours or just counted as day-by-day basis? Thank you. Can the Tourist Special Smart Card be used to travel from the airport to downtown e.g. Wangfujing & vice-versa?
I'll be in Beijing for 8 days next month, which travel card is highly recommended - Smart Card OR Tourist Special Smart Card?? Thank you.

Day-by-day based. The three-day card can be used 18 times within 3 days, costing 10RMB. It can not be used to pay for the airport bus. You can buy the 7-day card for 42 times, costing 20RMB. Smart card is ok either. You can charge money into the card as you want, it can uses in taxi too.

The card will expire on Oct 4th. And, this kind of card could just be used on city-buses, except of these lines with '9'. So, it could not be used on subway, too.

Can I purchase the Smart card at the airport? How troublesome is it to return the Smart card to get back the balance & card-deposit? Thank you.

Have no idea about the airport, but you could purchase the smart card at every subway station, very easy. Well, I returned my smart card at the Fuxingmen subway station which could be reached both by Line 1 and Line 2. There is a office to deal with card refund from 08:00 to 19:00 everyday. Usually, you could get your deposit and balance back in 5 minutes. It is not difficult to do this unless there will be many other travelers, too. Last time, I arrive there at 08:30, and get back the money around 08:45.

That is the only subway station you can return the card. There are many other offices that you can return the card, in public bus stations, many branches of Citic Bank. Fuxingmen is easy to reached by subway, isn't it?!

Take bus 753 and you can reach sihui Long-distance bus station. The fare to tianjin is about 30 yuan.
