Hi. In Dec to Jan, I am travelling from UK to Manila. This is my first visit to Asia (and first time flying), so I'm unsure about the procedures.
On my return trip I will need to wait at Beijing airport for 24 hours, for my connecting flight to Amsterdam.
Do I need to apply beforehand for a China transit visa to leave the airport?
When I leave the airport to stay at a hotel, do I need to collect my luggage and take it with me, or will it be forwarded to my connecting flight?
(The airline is China Southern Airlines, Terminal 2)
Many thanks for any help or suggestions.

Mr.Frank replied:

You don't have to apply for a transit visa. It seems that you will take connected flights, so no need to claim your luggage at Beijing Airport.

Recommended Transfer times at T2?

I will be arriving with Philippine Airlines on T2 and departing with Air France, lso from T2.
Intinerary states 1h45m to change? Is that enough? Will the luggage be checked trough?
Thanks in advance

Oct. 5,2009 22:48
Mr.Qi replied:

Generally, it needs 2 hours. After landing, you should get to find the transfer counter to ask if you can process the transfer directly. If not, you should get down to 1st floor to claim lugguage and then get back to 2nd floor to check-in for next flight.

I arrive from Washington Dulles and have 2 hour layover before departing on Air China flight To Kuala Lumpur. Do I need to claim baggage, customs etc, exit airport and then re-enter to continue my journey?

Or is there a shorter way to proceed?

Thanks,
Lance

Oct. 5,2009 01:42
Mr.Qi replied:

Both in T3?! As I know, you do not need to claim baggage, custom, exit and re-enter the airport. CHina airlines assure the transfer between international flights can be finished in one hour. Of course, this is the fastest. Two hours are enough for you. After getting off the plane and get into the terminal building, go to the transfer counter, showing your connecting flight ticket and then go to the boarding are in the second floor. If you do not have connecting ticket, it will be a bit complicated. You should claim baggage and pass the immigration and custom then get to the boarding area for next flight.

I am transiting through Terminal 3 on Friday 2 October.
I land at 7:35AM (S7 flight from Novosibirsk, Russia) and leave at 4:10PM (Air China flight to Sydney).

It means I stay 8 hours in Beijing...

Is it reasonnable/doable to make a very short roundtrip to the city center from the airport?
Is transportation easily accessible?

Sep. 28,2009 01:49
Mr.Frankie replied:

Do you have a transit Visa or a China Visa? If not, you are not allowed to leave the airport!

I am flying from Beijing to Shenyang on 16th Oct arriving at 6.00pm, I then need to take the bullet train to Tianjin. Please could you advise which station I need to go to and the estimated travel time by taxi. Will I also need to buy a ticket in advance.

Many thanks

Sep. 23,2009 20:41
Mr.Hank replied:

Do you mean that you will fly from Shenyang to Beijing? If so, taking a taxi will take you about 1.5 hours and 100RMB from the airport to the Beijing South Railway Station, where you could catch a bullet train to Tianjin. Not very sure if you could purchase a ticket when you arrive at the railway station since Oct 16th is a Friday for travel peak time. So, if possible, please book you ticket in advance!

I am arriving at Terminal 3 at 14:20 from Egypt and departing from Terminal 2 at 21h10 with MIAT to Ulanbator. How do I get there? Do I need a Chinese VISA

I have MIAT Itenary/Receipt - do they have an office to print a ticket at terminal 2 or is this good enough?

Sep. 23,2009 20:31
Mr.Hank replied:

No, you don't have to apply for any visa if you just transfer in the Capital Airport. If you hold the onward boarding pass, you could follows tha sings in T3 to the boarding gates. If not, you have to finish check-in procedures in T3 and then proceed with others.

Sep. 4,2009 01:28
Mr.Sam replied:

Both of the British Airway and the Air China are located in T3 of the Beijing Airport. If you hold connecting flight, your luggage will be transfer to your next route automatically. If not, you have to claim the baggage when you arrive and then check-in again. BTW, the mimimum connection time of your transfer in T3 is 160minutes.

We are arriving in Beijing Sunday morning and have 7 hrs before our connecting flight. If we leave the airport will we have to bring our luggage and check in again?

Sep. 1,2009 21:48
Mr.Hank replied:

Will you have an International->Internationa or other transfer in Beijing airport? If you have connected air ticket, the luggages will be transfer to your next flight automaticly. In this case, you don't have to bring your luggage. But, you have to check-in again once leaving from the airport. On the other hand, if it is I-I transfer, you must have a China visa. Actually, it is not suggested that you leave the airport since the transportation to and from downtown Beijing will take one hour for one-way trip at least.

Hi, I have a somewhat different question. I found out about the body temperature x-rays, and when your temperature is over 37C they will quarantine you because of NIHI scare. But my normal everday temperature has always been 37.2C. Do you think I can prove it with a doctor's note, or it does not matter? Anyways, was just wondering if you have any idea.
Secondly, how thoroughly are all the electronic devices being checked?? I have heard some horror stories about it. People losing their laptop hard drives, and external hard drives... What do you know about it?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Aug. 25,2009 01:39
Ms.Lidian replied:

I just came back from Beijing by air last weekend, seems things were not very serious as you thought. We passed the security screening smoothly under the kind guide of the airport staffs. No need to worry about losing your goods since you will go through the electronic devices while your bags are checked one by one. Just take it easy!

I WILL BE AT BEIJING AIRPORT 13 SEPTEMBER.AT 2 AM HOW I CAN GET TO WEST RAILWAY STATION AND I NEED TO GET XIAMEN TRAIN

Aug. 17,2009 02:47
Mr.Qi replied:

The train leaves at 11:57, so you have enough time. Airport Line 7 runs to the West Railway Station, but the first bus is at 5am. Airport Line 4 departs once there is a flight. You can take it to Gongzhufen, the end of this route. Then you can take a taxi to the railway station, which is just 3 km from Gongzhufen.

Hello !!
I will be arriving to Beijing teminal 3 from Australia , and transfering to another international flight terminal 3 !! to go to Siberia .
My question is !! I have 2.5 hours to do this , is it possible ?? also once I arrive in Beijing what is the procedures I go through for the connecting flight ?? and will my baggage be directed straight from Australia-Siberia without me having to handle it ??

Jul. 17,2009 01:40
Ms.Evelyn(CN) replied:

Transfer passengers will follow this flow:
Get off the plane → Report to airport transfer desk → Wait for boarding in Departure Hall

I think 2.5 hours is enough.

Aug. 12,2009 03:47
Mr.Droger(Russia) replied:

I will do exactly the same in October (first from Siberia to Australia, then back from Australia to Siberia).
My flights are with S7 then Air China.

I would appreciate if you can tell me how it worked for you.
Thanks!

We have eight hours transit time in late August at the Beijing airport. Are there hotels or motels within the airport, where we can check in room for shower and rest before connecting our journey to Europe? Are there facilities like cinema and health centre where we can go to fill in time?

Aug. 4,2009 03:49
Mr.herry(cn) replied:

Beijing Airport Garden Hotel can be a good choice. It may take you 5 minutes by walking. There are no cinema and health center around beijing capital airport. You can enjoy yourself in the hotel by watching TV. Click this for more infor about this hotel: http://www.travelchinaguide.com/hotel/beijing-airport-garden-hotel.htm
By the way, i think you should prebook the hotel as your time is tight!

Hi there,

I'm flying from London to PEK then getting a connecting flight to Bangkok. I have 2 and a half hours in between. Is this enough? Both are from terminal 3 and I'm flying with Air China. Will this be enough time to get from one plane to another, will I need to get my own baggage or would Air China do this for me?

Finally is there somewhere in T3 that I can smoke (without missing my flight)

Aug. 1,2009 02:36
Mr.Qi replied:

Yes, the time is enough to make the transfer. As I know, Air China will help you with the luggage. About the smoking area, you can easily find the sign showing smoking area at every boarding gate.

I am arriving in Beijing airport (T3) at 16:05 on Sept 6, 2009 from Canada, and want to go Lijiang. Is there a flight in the same day? If not, can I take flight on following day? Where do I need to go to buy a ticket? How can I book a ticket from Canada.

Thanks

Aug. 1,2009 02:24
Mr.Qi replied:

No flight to Beijing that day. Yes, you can make the next day. On Sep 7, there are five flights from beijing to Lijiang, only one of them are direct (the other four will make stops over Chongqing, Chengdu or Kunming). Of course the direct flight is expensive. China Eastern airlines has much cheaper flights from Beijing to Kunming. Then you can take bus to Lijiang then. you can book the ticket through website of airlines. And if you get to Kunming first, you can leave just in the same day as your arrival in Beijing.

Jul. 26,2009 01:13

Yes, in the same terminal, T3. You should go through customs in Beijing.
