I live in Toronto , Canada. I have never been to China, but have friends I'd like to visit in Beijing, Guangzhou and Nanning. Whats the easiest and simplest way for me to arrange a week, or ten day trip, trip to visit these friends? What do I need for a visa, etc. etc. I speak a little Mandarin, but not much.

Oct. 29,2009 22:25
Mr.Leo replied:

Hi sir, I think you should firstly arrive in Beijing from Canada, vice versa. Then, please take a flight to Nanning for 2-day's travel and a flight to Guangzhou for 2-day's travel continuously. Finally, back to Beijing from Guangzhou by air. You could spend the rest days in visiting Beijing.

Hi everyone, I would like to inquire from those presently in Hainan
Any comments about the Meritus Mandarin Hotel - the state of the hotel, cleanliness, service or whether its good or badly maintained hotel? Is it located in Haikou or Sanya area?
Any major shopping malls there carrying international brands or local markets selling run offs from mass productions for major brands?
Weather wise - are there 4 season and does it ever gets below 15C ??
What interesting places to go for meals especially where the locals eats, not in those fancy restaurants.

Thank you in advance for the pointers as I plan for my trip there soon.

Oct. 12,2009 21:02
Mr.Jack replied:

Here are some info and comments on the hotel, hope it helps:
www.travelchinguide.com/hotel/meritus-mandarin-hotel-haikou.htm

The temperature there in Jan, the coldeat month of a year, is about 15-20C, (averagely about 17C).

Fo shopping in Hainan, you can get around Haixiu Dadao and Dadongmen market. Places to go for meal, Jinlong Road and Guomao area are nice places to explore.

Ms.Irene(Singapore) replied:

Hi Mr.Tien,

I just got back from Haikou and Sanya.
My Comment : Haikou is the best. You can visit the local seafood where you purchase and bargain for the seafood and btw you still can have it cooked from our of the vendors..etc.....I can recommend you the driver [Ah Sin HP: 13519801255]and he does the bargain for us.He drove us to Sanya for sightseeing from 7am to 11pm for whole day activities. At least, you have somebody who knows the place well. If you want to hire him, give him a call. No Regret.
Will visit the place again before Chinese New Year for Goodies.

Thanks and Bon Voyage,
Ireneang

I think 3 days are enough in Haikou. Well, here is a list of Haikou's attraction: http://www.travelchinaguide.com/attraction/hainan/haikou/ So, please consider going to Boao or Sanya~

The best hotel in Haikou should be the Sheraton Haikou Resort, haveing good view and comfortable facilities. For resonable price, how about the Haikou Hotel? It is located in the prosperous shopping area.

The various kinds of seafood could be found easily in Haikou, supplying at these reasonable booth to delicate restaurant.

It will take you about 3~4 hours to Sanya from Haikou Airport by taix. When you arrive at the Haikou Airport, you could hire a taxi on the spot at the airport. There fare should be around CNY300. May be a little higher during hot travel season.

Hi Everybody:

Any advice : How long journey from Sheraton Haikou to Sanya?
Location from Sherton Haikou Resort to Airport.
How long does it takes and the fares?
Any recommendation : Hire a van for travelling the whole day, how much does it cost?

Thanks

Sep. 24,2009 01:21
Mr.Jack replied:

From Haikou to Sanya, the journey is about 3~4 hours by bus. If you take a taxi from Sheraton to Haikou Airport, the fare is around 100RMB, since the hotel is located a little far from the city center. If you would like to hire a van to visit Haikou, the fee is not very high. You could consult with the driver~

I'm Mary from Singapore. Thanks! Ms Jenni for your recommendation. 5 days 4 nights - I should stay how many days in Sanya and Haikou? Should I stay Haikou first or Sanya or 1st & last day haikou? Any suggestion? Besides that, I would like to check about the Visa. Can Malaysian get visa on arrival @ Haikou airpot?

Sep. 17,2009 22:38
Ms.Jenni replied:

Since your flight will arrive in Haikou, I think you could stay 2 nights in Haikou firstly and then 2 nights in Sanya. At the end, you could take a flight back to Singapore from Sanya Airport.
As I know, the Singapore passport holders could visit Hainan without visa but they should participate in a tour group. So, if you travel individually, you have to apply for China visa in advance before coming to Hainan.

Sep. 18,2009 02:43
Ms.Mary Siew(Singapore) replied:

Thanks Jenni! I've bought 2 ways return air tickets from Singapore-Haikou-Singapore. My flight arriving on Sat 16:30 and depart on Wed 17:00. So, what would you suggest for my stay in Haikou and Sanya? I will get Visa from Singapore before I go Haikou.

Sep. 18,2009 03:28
Ms.Jenni replied:

Well, it doesn't matter. On the last day, you could hire a cab driving you from Sanya to Haikou Airport directly. The fare is about CNY270~300. The journey is about 3~4 hours, so you could leave from Sanya around 9am.

Sep. 18,2009 03:39
Ms.Mary(Singapore) replied:

Can anyone comment how is the Sheraton Haikou? Is the location close in city centre and easy access?

Sep. 20,2009 03:47
Mr.Jack replied:

It is not in the city center, but not very far, in Nanhai Dadao. It is within 20 minutes's drive to the city center.

Ms.Jenni replied:

Hi Mary, I have search a 5-day's tour on this website at http://www.travelchinaguide.com/package/haikoutour1.htm It may give you some reference. Actually, I don't think there are too much places to see in Sanya. This tropical city is much properer for a leisure holiday at hotels. Both of the two hotes you listed are ok. But, there are many other choices in Sanya. You could get a list with hotels' comments at http://www.travelchinaguide.com/hotel/sanya-hotels.htm

Hi, Planning to go for a 5 day trip to Haikou Sanya in early Jan'10. Anyone can advise, how to go to Haikou to Sanya which is convinient like a cab and how much will it cost to & fro. Which hotel to recommend in Sanya that is really nice like near the beach & still not so far to the city area. As I saw some review, which is really shocking.. Any advise on shopping in Haikou or Sanya, like ladies clothes/quality shoes lik Ecco brand. Thank you

Sep. 10,2009 04:54
Mr.Jack replied:

Hi, if you travel alone, suggest you take bus from Haikou to Sanya. Haikou South Bus Station has buses to Sanya, the ticket fare is about 80RMB for three hours. If you travel with others or just rent a taxi with other three visitors to Sanya, it is a better idea. The taxi costs about 300RMB, you can negotiate the price, less then 80RMB per person. For living, stay at Yalong Bay is close to the beach or Dadonghai is cheaper and closer to the city center.
