Located in the center of Shandong Province, Tai'an plays a very important role in connecting the northern China with the south: The No.104 National Highway and a number of other expressways connect Tai'an with the capital of Shandong Province, Jinan to the north and the Confucius' hometown Qufu to the south. The famous Jinghu Railway (Beijing-Shanghai) crosses this city as well. This area has become well known due to tourism brought in by Mount Taishan and the convenient traffic, which makes visiting the mountain easy. Typically visitors first travel to Jinan, then take a long-distance bus or train to Tai'an. City traffic in Tai'an is also easy to navigate - bus routes and taxis will help you get around this city.
Getting There
By Air
There is no airport in Tai'an. Usually visitors arrive through the Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport and then take the airport shuttle to Tai'an. Each day, four buses shuttle between the airport and the Taishan Hotel (No.26 Hongmen Road) in Tai'an City. The departure time is at 08:40, 10:30, 15:30 and 16:40. The charge is CNY60 per person and the tickets can be bought at No.5 and No.6 Wicket of the Arrival Hall on the first floor. Similarly, if you leave Tai'an for the Jinan Yaoqiang Airport, you can take the shuttles in front of the Taishan Hotel. The departure time is 05:30, 08:00, 12:00 and 14:00 and you can buy the ticket after getting on the shuttles.
By Train
The railway station of Tai'an is called Taishan Railway Station, and is located at the west end of the Caiyuan Street. You can take Bus No.3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12 to get there. Trains run frequently at the Taishan Railway Station, providing transportation to Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Jinan, Yantai, and many other cities.

Usually, train tickets are available up to three days early. In addition to the ticket office at the Taishan Railway Station, there are two ticket agencies in Tai'an. One is at the Pacific Ocean Hotel (No.147 Dongyue Street) and the other is at the Dongdu Hotel (No.279 Daizong Street).
By Long-Distance Bus
There are two main coach bus stations in Tai'an. One is Tai'an Coach Bus Station (Old), located at the joint of the Taishan Street, Longtan Road and Lingshan Street, Taishan District. With a big volume of passenger traffic, it provides more coach buses. So, it would be a better choice for you. The other is Tai'an Coach Bus Station (New), situated in the west section of the Dongyue Street, Tai'an and the Bus No.1, 4, 5, 11, 16, 31, 32 can take you go there.
Tip: If you're traveling to Tai'an from Jinan, you can take a coach bus at the Jinan Coach Terminal (No.131 Jinuo Road, Jinan).

Getting Around
By City-Bus
There are about 30 bus routes in the urban areas of Tai'an, most of which pass by the Taishan Railway Station. Thus, it is advisable to take busses to the Railway Station and then transfer for various attractions. For instance, visitors can take the Bus No.3 here, the two terminals of which are located at the base of Mount Taishan. One terminal is Tianwaicun where travelers can board a bus that will travel up the mountain, while the other is Hongmen where visitors are able to ascend by foot.
Additionally, Bus No.4 passes by the railway station can reach the Dai Temple, which is also a start point for hiking Mount Taishan. Bus No.16 departing from the railway station is a special tour line to the Peach Blossom Ravine. Special Tour Bus No.2 starts from the Taishan Railway Station traveling to Tianzhu Peak, where you can also begin a hike up Mount Taishan.
Tip: Usually, taking a city-bus should cost CNY1 per person (self-service ticketing). Please prepare CNY1 before you get on the bus.
