Liugong Island

Liugong Island
Liugong Island
Liugong Island is in Weihai Bay, near the tip of Shandong Peninsula, while Weihai City is 20 minutes away by tour ship.

A natural beauty of temperate climate, the island has the reputation of being ‘a fairy isle on the sea’ and ‘a Garden of Eden’. The island rises high in the north and dips low in the south. A wall of cliffs guards the northern boundaries while sandy beaches line miles upon miles of the southern shores.

Liugong Island Expo Park

Liugong Island Expo gathers together relevant relics on the island’s history and cultural. It exhibits four huge colorful jade murals, Wanghai Tower from the Tang Dynasty (618-907), a water harp with 13 strings of water columns and a Weihaiwei historic exhibition hall. Also, a Whale Museum there is very informative on the subject. The collection includes the largest sperm whale specimen, measuring 19.6-meter (64 feet) long and 50.1 tons (110,451 pounds) in weight, on record.

Liugong Island National Forest Park

It is to be dedicated by the State Forestry Administration as the first park of China by the sea. On the island, peaks and ridges rise one after another. The highest peak is at an altitude of 503.6 feet. The densely wooded island looks like a sea of black pine and verdant cypress. It supports the lives of a hundred spotted deer.

Museum of Sino-Japanese War of 1894

Liugong Island marks a China's tragic military defeat. In 1894, Japan invaded China in what was known as the Jiawu War, made famous by a naval engagement. The museum theme focuses on the Beiyang Navy and Sino-Japanese War of 1894. It features artifacts from the Jiawu War, such as the Headquarters interiors of the Beiyang Navy, Memorial Hall of Beiyang Soldiers, marines and three gun emplacements. A Sino-Japanese Sea Battle Demonstration Museum is there to illustrate a developmental history of the Beiyang Navy.
