Shanghai Oriental Art Center, which opened at the end of 2004, is considered to be a fashionable landmark of Shanghai. Located at Pudong Administration and Culture Center, it was designed by Paul Andreu, a famous French architect. The five hemispherical halls connected together make the whole construction appear like a shining butterfly. The five halls are used respectively for entrance, performances, concerts, exhibitions and operas.
At present, Shanghai Oriental Art Center has successfully held various quality performances and cultural events. The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Shanghai Concert was held here in 2005.
Saturday Brunch Concert is held here every week, showing various kinds of performance, including opera, children chorus, cello, piano, jazz, zither masterpiece and incidental music and so on. The ticket price ranges from CNY 30 to 80, very affordable for common citizens to enjoy the splendid performance. Classical Shanghai Night – Weekend Jazz Salon is held periodically in Oriental Art Center, showing jazz music played by a local big band called Hailin. The ticket price is from CNY 60 to 300. Oriental Charm Concert is held on Saturday every two weeks. Oriental Charm is a super folk music band comprising five girls. You are suggested to go to see their performance if you are interested in traditional Chinese music. The ticket fare is from CNY 30 to 300.
