Jiuzhaigou Scenic AreaA two-thousand-year history leaves Chengdu with numerous historical places of interest. Fertile lands and a favorable climate endow the city with picturesque surrounding scenic landscape.

China is known as the home of the giant panda, eighty percent of which live in Sichuan Province. Visitors from all over the world visit Sichuan to see them. The Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center is one place where visitors can observe pandas at close range.

Wuhou Memorial Temple , one of the key state-preserved cultural relic units, was built in the 6th Century in memory of Liu Bei, Emperor of the Kingdom of Shu in the period of the Three Kingdoms (220-280), and for Zhuge Liang, Prime Minister of the kingdom, renowned for his skill in military affairs and his contributions to the development of the Shu area (now known as Sichuan Province).

Thatched Cottage of Du Fu was the residence of Du Fu, famous poet living of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). For three and a half years he lived in the cottage, creating over 240 poems handed down to this day. Now the cottage presents itself as the museum of Du Fu with a garden combining artificial and natural beauty.

Symbolized by two bronze goats standing in front of the gate, Qingyang Palace (Gray Goat Palace) is considered to be the oldest Taoist temple in Chengdu. Legends about the origin of the palace can also be enjoyed here.

Wenshu Monastery is the best-preserved Buddhist temple in Chengdu with hundreds of bronze, wooden and stone statues, and Buddhist relics. Gaiwan Tea (a typical tea-drinking style in Sichuan Province) is served in its separate teahouse.

Lovely giant pandasFour hundred kilometers away from Chengdu lies a fairyland whose natural and primitive beauty impresses everyone who visits here. Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area , with its heaven-bestowed landscapes, precious animals and plants and the special local flavor of the Tibetan People, deserves the first recommendation for a neighborhood tour of Chengdu.

Like a huge dragon winding from south to north, Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area owes its fame to the breathtaking charm of its innumerable ponds, rocks, waterfalls, snow-covered mountains, valleys, temples, and local customs. Located close to Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area, Huanglong Valley offers more natural beauty.

Dujiangyan Irrigation Project , one of the world's cultural heritages constructed 2,000 years ago, amazingly continues to benefit more than 40 neighboring counties.
