Jinghong Transportation


Bordering with Burma in the south, Jinghong is an important port city linking China with the Southeast Asian countries and regions, having a border line of 112.39 kilometers (70 miles). It covers a total area of 7,000 square kilometers (2,703 square miles), with thirteen towns and 86 villages under its prefecture.

Xishuangbanna Airport (Xishuangbanna Jinghong Airport), the second largest airport in Yunnan.  National Highways No.213 and No.214 join in Jinghong, and 85% of the town roads in Jinghong are paved with asphalt. Meanwhile, the international express highway from Kunming to Bangkok also passes Jinghong.

The Lancang-Mekong River enjoying the fame as 'the Danube of the East' flows through Jinghong. Jinghong Port is the first grade national port in China, from which passengers can get to Burma, Laos, Thailand and other places aside the Lancang-Mekong River.

Getting there

The ticket price is CNY2 per person. If the schedule is tight, visitors can take taxi to Jinghong City directly within CNY 40.

Location: Xishuangbanna Airport (also Xishuangbanna Jinghong Airport) is situated 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) to the southwest of Jinghong City.

Brief Intro: Established in 1990, Xishuangbanna Airport is the second largest airport in Yunnan. It covers an area of 1620 mu (266.9 acres), including a 20.4 thousand square meters (50.4 acres) apron with four gate positions and a 7859 square meters (11.8 acres) terminal building. The 2200 meters (1.2 miles) long runway here can handle planes like B737. Now, it has flights connecting Xishuangbanna with 18 major Chinese cities including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Kunming, Lijiang and Shangri-La as well as 3 international lines including Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Luang Prabang.

Transportation:
There is no shuttle bus running between Xishuangbanna Airport and the city center. However, since the distance is not great, taxies in the airport may be a good choice. Moreover, about 500 meters (547 yards) to the right of the airport, there is City-bus No.1 could take you to the city center.

By Long-Distance Bus
All the towns and townships in Jinghong are connected by highways. Kunming-Xishuangbanna express highway has been opened since the year 2006. There are over 20 buses leaving for Kunming from Jinghong, and it takes about nine hours to finish a single trip. In addition, there are three highways reaching to Burma and Thailand in Jinghong.

Jinghong Long-distance Bus Station is located at No.23, Jinghong Bei Lu (North Road). Visitors can take Bus No.3 to this station for CNY 1 per person.
Xishuangbanna Bus Station is Located at No.5, Jinghong Bei Lu (North Road). Visitors can take Bus No.3 to this station for CNY 1 per person.

By Ship
Made up of Jinghong, Ganlanba and Guanlei wharfs, Jinghong Port is the first grade national port in China. The Lancang-Mekong River international waterway has become a main artery to link China with Southeast Asia and even South Asia. Currently, Jinghong-Chiang Saen, Burma, and Jinghong-Vientiane, Laos, international waterways has been opened. Visitor can take Bus No.2 to Jinghong Port directly for CNY2 per person.

Getting Around

 By City-bus
There are a total of three buses in Jinghong. Visitors can take the buses to all of the secenic spots in Jinghong City. Follows is some detail for reference:

Bus No.1 starts from Minhang Lukou of Jingde Lu (on the opposite side of the civil aviation ticket office) where passengers can change to Bus No.3, and ends at Gasa Township, via the old and new gates of the National Garden of Flirtatious Expressions and Xishuangbanna International Airport. The ticket price is CNY2 per person.
Bus No.2 is from the Jinghong Port to Gadong Township, passing the Tropical Flowers Garden and the Medicinal Botanical Garden. The ticket price is CNY2 per person.
Bus No.3 is a ring road from the crossing of Jinghong Bei Lu and Galan Bei Lu to the Manting Park. It goes by the Jinghong Long-distance Bus Station, Xishuangbanna Bus Station, the trade market, Jinfeng Hotel and Tianshun Supermarket. The ticket price CNY 1 per person.

 By Taxi
The basic charge of the taxis for the first 3 kilometers (about 1.7 miles) is CNY5 and then CNY1.2 for every additional kilometer (0.6 mile) in Jinghong. Passengers have to pay for another 20% allowance of the taxi fee to the taxi driver when taking a taxi between 22:00 and 06:00 of the next day. Besides, passengers have to afford the road toll, the bridge toll and the E bonded charge, while the taxi driver will pay for the parking fee.

Please pay attention to that all of the taxis use taxi meters to calculate the fee in Jinghong.

 By Bicycle and Rickshaw
Jinghong City is small, so it is a good choice to travel it by riding bicycles for those self-independent tourists. The advantages of riding a bicycle is one can stop at any place or time to enjoy what one is interested in freely. They can rent bicycles from some local hotels with a certain amount of deposit.

Additionally, visitors to Jinghong can also take a rickshaw for a short-distance sightseeing in Jinghong City, and the fee is just about CNY2 for a single trip.

There was a connecting flight from Kunming-Jinghong-Bangkok before but stopped later. It is expected to be open again in Oct. I haven't see the flight info by now. The flight is operated by China Eastern Airlines. You can make a inquiry.

Take bus from Jinghong to Mengla, when you get there five hours later you can ask the bus further to Laos.

No direct flight. The Chiang Mai Airport has flight to Kunming, China. Then, you could fly from Kunming to Jinghong. But the airfare to Kunming is somewhat expensive~
