The Chrysanthemum Fair usually persists for one month from the 28th of October, each year. During the Fair colorful and prosperous chrysanthemums are placed in streets and lanes. The primary sites are set in the Dragon Pavilion, the Iron Pagoda, the Xiangguo Temple, the Memorial Temple of Lord Bao and the Terrace of King Yu. The Kaifeng Chrysanthemum Fair was flourishing as long ago as the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). Local people have been enjoying the chrysanthemum lanterns, chrysanthemum fairs and chrysanthemum wine for about one thousand years. Apart from exhibiting the various chrysanthemums, the fair also aimed to show off all aspects of Kaifeng to visitors.
