Accomodation - We stayed at Yes Inn. They have a website, www.yesinn.com. It was a lovely place. The room was expectedly small but homely and very comfortable. It was obvious that the owners made an effort to make it so, demonstrating great attention to detail. TV, laundry, internet, WiFi, drinking water, hot shower, air-conditioning, fridge, microwave and kettle all avaliable. The pictures in their website is an accurate representation of how the guesthouse really looks like. It is just across the road from the Fortress Hill MTR station, which is just 4-5 stops away from Admiralty and Central. There are supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, money changers, cheap eateries and convenient stores in the vicinity. There is also a tram stop right in front of the block. The rate, for a double was about 360HKD per night. In my opinion, its a steal.
Do visit...
1. Sheung Wan Market
2. Upper Lascar Row & Hollywood Road - Amazing array of antiques.
3. Goldfish Market - If pets if your thing, this will certainly bark up your tree.
4. Pottinger Street
5. Mid-Levels Escalator
6. Tai O Fishing Village (Lantau island) - Purchase fresh live seafood from any of the many fisherman and ask any of the restaurant to prepare it for you.
7. Aberdeen - Don't miss out on the fish market!
8. Stanley
9. Ave of Stars - The Symphony of Light show is rather lame but the view of HK island at night is nonetheless amazing. It is better for you to be at the Central/ Admiralty area itself during the show. Seeing the buildings light up right in front of you is far more impressive than watching it from afar.
10. Peak - We went there twice, once in the early morning, once in the evening. And we are glad we did, it was a totally different experience each time round. Be warned, the peak tram is extremely popular and expect to wait on your way up/down. During our morning visit we got to the peak tram station at 8am in the morning. It was empty, we didn't have to wait to get up or down an hour later. When our tram arrive at the bottom station we were shocked to find a long queue of people waiting to get on. The point is, be there early, the tram starts operating at 7am. Unless you want to share the view with an army of trigger happy package tourists get there early.
Don't waste your time on...
1. Western Market - Impressive exterior but little of interest inside.
2. Li Yuen Street East/West - Packed with stalls selling cheap tacky clothing, there are far better market streets in HK than these.
3. Ladder Street - Just a long staircase.
