Thousand Islets Lake Cruise Scenery
Being the largest man-made lake in China, Qian
Dao Hu has developed numerous scenic attractions. These attractions
comprise nature, wildlife, historical and cultural sites and entertainment.
Wulong Scenic Area (Five Dragons
Islet)
Located in the Central Lake District, Wulong Scenic Area is the
lake's most famous attraction. It is composed of four islets -
Lock Island; Bird Islet; Zhenqu (True Delight) Garden and Qishi
(Strange Stone) Islet. These islets are connected by three bridges
- Yule (joyful fish), Xingyun (lucky) and Zhuangyuan (number one
scholar). The area features folk customs and highlights locks
culture, stone sculpture and its inherent natural beauty. Wulong
Scenic Area has received many awards for its excellent tourist
facilities and friendly service.
Lock Islet: This islet is an amazing world of
locks with over 160,000 of them in various shapes and forms. Visitors
can experience the thrill of springing a lock open and hanging
it at the Happiness Lock, Wisdom Lock or twelve Zodiacal Animals
Lock Hanging Squares. The first lock museum in China is here and
houses more than 200 different types of locks. The islet is home
to the famed Safety Lock, a copper lock 3.4 meters high and weighing
2.6 tons. It is the world's largest lock and is recorded as such
in the Guiness Book of Records.
Bird Islet: Bird Islet has over 6,000 birds
representing fifty species of wading birds, waterfowl and birds
of prey. It is a wonderful place for visitors to study the birds'
behaviors including the opportunity to even converse with a mynah.
It is permissible to feed the birds here.
Zhenqu Garden: There are lots of activities,
particularly for kids, available here including trampolines and
slides. This islet also has extensive folk art exhibitions.
Qishi Islet: Over a thousand stones gathering
from different places in China including the 'Chinese Four Famous
Stones' can be seen on this islet. Also, there is a stone art
museum and other related attractions.
Meifeng Islet (Plum Peak)
Situated in the Central Lake District of Qian Dao Hu, Meifeng
Islet is regarded as one of the lake's leading scenic spots. Its
sightseeing platform offers visitors a panoramic view of Thousand
Islets Lake. Meifeng's lush environment showcases an abundant
variety of plants and a memorable landscape. Additionally, there
are some entertaining attractions including cable car rides, boating
on the lake and grass skiing.

Wenxin Islet (Warm and Fragrant Islet)
The Aquatic Amusement Center here has many forms of water-based
entertainment. Parasailing, hydroairplane rides, windsurfing,
aeroboating, bicycling and sailing are among the activities available.
In addition, nicely decorated log cabins that ring the shoreline
are ideal for lodging. The islet also has a bowling center and
a variety of folk singing and dancing performances.
Longshan Islet
Longshan Islet is a 'must-see' cultural attraction of Thousand
Islets Lake. This islet is home to such legendary attractions
as Hai Rui Memorial Temple, Shixia Academy of Classical Learning
and the Bell Tower.
Shenlong Islet
Can you imagine an islet full of snakes? Well, Shenlong Islet
has over 10,000 snakes of various kinds. Visitors can not only
view these snakes, but can also experience the thrill of entering
a 'snake house' and getting very close to the reptiles. There
are also staged performances presenting actors and dancers interacting
with the slithery creatures.
Sweet Osmanthus Islet (Guihua
Islet)
The Sweet Osmanthus is so named due to the wild, sweet smelling
yellow-gold flowers that are scattered everywhere on the islet.
There are karst formations throughout the area as well as many
types of exotic looking rocks.
Heaven Pool (Tianchi)
Tianchi used to be a quarry when the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279)
built their palaces. Now, the Heaven Pool has become a cultural
attraction. The most popular sites are Viewing Fish at Heaven
Pool (Tianchi Guanyu); the Stone Culture Display and the Stoneware
Workshop. These and other attractions on the islet provide visitors
an insight into China's long and glorious history.
Honey Mountain Islet (Mishan Islet)
Situated on the Southeast Lake District of Thousand Islets Lake,
the Honey Mountain Islet is the place where the fable of 'One
boy is a boy, two boys half a boy, three boys no boy' happened.
Also, it is a garden where many pious men and woman gathering
to burn incense to pray for good fortune every year.
Huangshan Jian
Admission Fee: 40 Yuan/Person
Huangshan Jian is a new attraction that opened to visitors in
September, 2005. It covers 99 acres and is an ideal place to view
the verdant hills and emerald green waters of the Thousand Islets
Lake. Huangshan Jian's highest peak reaches a height of 266 meters
and affords a view of more than ninety islets. From this vantage
point, the islets look like strings of pearls scattered on the
lake. Looking southeast, a deep and imposing gorge can be seen
and looking southwest, one can see the largest island of Thousand
Islets Lake shrouded in the mist. At present, visitors can admire
the beauty of the lake from the sightseeing platforms halfway
up the peak or at the top of the peak itself.
