Gabon established foreign relations with China on April 20, 1974. The relation between two countries develops very quickly. The Gabon's President El Hadj Omar Bongo has visited China for eight times. Chinese leaders also visit Gabon for many times. In February, 2004, Chairman Hu Jintao made a state visit to Gabon and brought forward three suggestions about relations between China and Gabon. Then Gabon and China declared the joint communiqué. On January 9, 2003, the Gabon's Senate Mansion in Libreville funded by China held the ground-breaking ceremony.
