Yes, you need a invitation letter, for you have to apply for a Business visa for the canton fair. If you don't have a cooperated partner in China, you can contact the Organizer of the Canton Fair to provide you an invitation letter.

If your company will process the visa fro you when you ar ein China, you can just go to Chian with a F business visa. you can go t China with a L tourist visa to China and change your visa to be a work visa after you find an offer in China. However, you are not allowed to work in China with a tourist visa.
