Dear Ms Lilian
I have a problem with getting a 12 month multi entry Visa to China .1.I live in the USA on a Visa and when I apply in the USA they wont give me a 12 month Multi entry Visa as I am not a USA Citizen so they will only grant me a 2 entry visa and tell me to apply in Australia.2.So I send it to Brisbane last week to apply for a multi entry visa and they wont accept it as I live in the USA ? and tell me to apply in USA
3.Before the april 2008 rule changes I could easy get a 12 month multi entry visa in Hong Kong and have for many years get a 12 month multi entry visa ? Now you need a Hong Kong ID (If you are Australian )to get more than a 2 entry Visa .I spend almost 5 months a year in Hong Kong and manufacture a lot of products in China and need reasonable access to the factorys in China that I work with everyday .I have paid almost USD$100 per double entry and have bought over 10 since the rule changed as well with the cost of waiting 2-3 working days for the Visa and losing 1 page everytime seems unfair.
Please help as it has been very hard to understand .
Sincerely
Peter

Ms.Lilian(China) replied:

Mr.Peter, it is also hard for me to answer you because it is the policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the China. Chinese government make the qulification of visa issurance more strict than before although the Olympics had passed. It doesn't restore the visa policy to its previous state.

Dear Sir or Madam
I am planning to go to Beijing, China 28th April 2009 until 3rd May 2009 with my family for a holiday.I read in a book about China that 1st May is Labour Day public holiday and that public holidays last 3 days in China and businesses and banks remain shut for up to 7 days. I am concerned that I will not be able to go to tourist attractions or go shopping from 1/5/09 - 3/5/09 due to the public holiday. Are you able to tell me if this would be the case, so if needed, I can change the date I plan to travel. I have contacted various travel agents who are not able to answer my question and they suggested I contact the China consulate. Thank you and I look forward to your reply.

Mr.leonardo(China) replied:

It is not the real case. In the past, the May Holidays lasted about 7 seven days. It is called ‘May Holiday Golden Week”. Chinese people took seven days off the work. Well, for the public service apparatus, (banks and transportation service), it is an exception. In fact, the May Holiday is a time of travel peak and shopping. The businesses promote their sales during the holidays. China has shortened the duration of May holidays since 2008 from seven days to three days. You don’t have to worry about your shopping during the holidays. May holiday remains an occasion for shopping and travel.
