My son was born in Hong Kong and now is 19 years old. He came here since he was five. He is a Canadian citizen holding a Canadian passport. He is planning to travel to Hong Kong and China in the coming months.

Questions are:
1) Can he apply for Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card and HKSAR Passport here in Vancouver.
2) If he apply for China visa, is it for one time only or for a specified period of time.

Thanks!

Sep. 22,2009 01:25
Mr.Patrick replied:

1) As for the Hk Permanent Identity Card, you should contact the Immigration Department of Hk for exact answer by enquiry hotline at (852) 2824 6111 or by fax at (852) 2877 7711.
2)You mean the entry of the visa? You can apply for single, double or multiple entry visas if you can provide all of the required documents.

My Son is a Canadaian citizen holding a Canadain passport (expiring 2010 April 10th) and also a HK Identity Card. He is planning to travel to Hong Kong in December for 10 days. Questions are:
1. Given that he is a permanent resident of Hong Kong, does he still need to renew his passport since it has less than 6 months validity when he travels?
2. He is taking a round trip flight to Hong Kong via Beijing. Does he need to apply for a transit visa for the connection flight?

Sep. 21,2009 20:22
Ms.Celina(China) replied:

1. he doesn't need to renew his passport, having a minimum validity on his passport of 1 month beyond the intended stay is accepted by the immigration officer of Hong Kong. In another words, he has a HK Identity Card, he can use it to enter HK

2. If he stays at Beijing for less than 24 hours without leaving the airport, he doesn't need a transit visa for connection flight.

My friend, actually an ex-family member, is now living in the US. She has booked to take a tour to China, but the consulate in Seattle would not process a visa on her Canadian passport. Does she have to come to the consulate in Vancouver in person? Can I do it for her? If I can't, how long will it take? If the Consulate requires the passport for more than 1 day, my friend will be unable to return home to Seattle because she will need her passport to re-enter the United States.

Aug. 27,2009 21:18
Mr.Andrew replied:

You can do it on behalf of her, but the visa application form must be signed by herself.
Considering to your friend's situation, you can request the Rush Service (same day pick-up)by paying an addotional $50CAD.

My friend is a white guy,( a Canadian ) now living in the city of Zhuhai China.

He married a Chinese lady 8 years ago at her home town. Now they are seperated and she wants to divorce him. Do they have to go back to the same place where they got married to get the divorce done? Or can they just both sign on the divorce agreement and have it down in Zhuhai or even in Canada?

Aug. 25,2009 02:49
Mr.Mark replied:

I think you can just both sign on the divorce agreement and have it down in Zhuhai or even in Canada. However, they have to confirm this with the Chin aembassy in Canada or the Canadian embassy in China.

I am a Manitoban, who has a flight booked for China on Aug. 5th. Because of problems with my passport, I have been unable to apply for my Chinese Visa yet. My flight goes through Vancouver and I was wondering if I could spend an extra day in Vancouver and get my Visa (Tuesday the 4th of August) And then fly to Shanghai on Wednesday. Does anyone know if this is possible or who to contact about this?? Thanks

Aug. 1,2009 02:09
Mr.Jack(Canada) replied:

It is impossible, if you don't have the Chinese visa, the airline company won't allow you to board, so you can't fly to Vancouver. On the other hand, you said you can't apply for Chinese visa becuase of your passport problem. When you get in vancouver, you still haeve the passport problem.

Mr. Yang,

I was born in China and became a Canadian citizen a few years ago. Now I am visiting my husband in San Francisco (no visa for US needed if staying in the US <6 months) and we have an emergency at home in Xinjiang so I need to go back to China ASAP. My question is where I should go to get the visa for China. Do I have to go back to Vancouver to get it? Or can I go to San Francisco consulate to apply for the visa? I got limited time and have called the consulate many times but couldn't reach them. Please let me know the fastest way to get the visa. Thank you very much.

Jane

Jul. 31,2009 22:43
Mr.John Nash(US) replied:

The Consulate general of China in San Francisco will ask you to provide the original and photocopy of US Green Card,Work Permit,I-20 Form, valid US Visa or other additional documents and then make a decision on whether to issue the visa case by case. So I'm afriad that you have to return to vancouver to apply for it or go to Hong Kong to apply for it

I want to apply for HKSAR Passport in Vancouver, and I understand from the following webside:

http://www.gov.hk/en/residents/immigration/traveldoc/hksarpassport/applyhkpassport.htm

that I can apply at #288 - 1388 W. Broadway, Vancouver. I have a valid Hong Kong permanent identity card and will be travelling in mid-September. I have 2 questions:

1. How long does it take to processed the passport?
2. The photo requirements are different than those of a Canadian passport. Where can I get one taken that is acceptable by your office?

Thanks.

I just want to ask where I should go to renew my chinese passport. Should I go to West Broadway or in Granville? Likewise,Can I do it now because it will expire in October 2009. Thanks.

Mar. 18,2009 21:45
Mr.Frank(Canada) replied:

Either West Broadway or Granville is okay for your renewal of passport. If you want to apply for a visa in April or May, you'd better renew your passport now. Since for visa application, your passport must have at least six months validity period left before expiration.

Jul. 24,2009 20:58
Mr.Eric(Canada) replied:

A word of advice if you don't want to be turned away when you get to the front desk. Make sure you have the correct sized chinese passport photos (they are not the same size as canadian passport photos or even chinese visa photos), bring photocopies of the first two pages of your current chinese passport, photocopies of the front and back of your Canadian PR card (if you have one), and the application form. Get there early if you're going to the Broadway location in Vancouver (8:30AM at latest) because the line is very long. There is a small digital photo store one block west of the consulate on Broadway that knows exactly what size photos and what photocopies you need. We had to go there when our photos were the wrong size.
