Hi,

I'm currently trying to organise a Chinese Tourist Visa for a 5 day stayover in Beijing, starting on March 1st, 2010. I'm a British Citizen, but will be flying to Beijing from South Korea, which is where I currently live and work as an English teacher.

Could someone please advise how I go about applying for a visa?
At the moment I'm confused as to whether I can apply directly to the Chinese Embassy in Korea, or if I need to go through a third party visa agency. If the later is correct, could you please advise a good agency to go with, because I can't seem to find the page on this websight.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Rich

Mrs.June(China) replied:

Mr. Richard, where do you teach English in South Korea, please pay attention to the consular distrcts, if you want to apply for Chinese visa in seoul or Pusan, you have to apply for it through one of the travel agencies authorized by Chinese embassy or consulate, as for the list of travel agencies, they are in Korean version or Chinese version, can you read Korean?

Feb. 11,2010 22:26
Mr.Richard(Soth Korea) replied:

Hi June,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I can only read English. I teach in Inceon, so Seoul is my closest Embassy.

How do I go about contacting an agency? I was hoping that I could just pay a visit to the Embassy myself, and deposit my documents personally.

Kind Regards,

Rich

Mrs.June(China) replied:

Mr.Richard, you have to apply for Chinese Transit Visa through the designated travel agency, the visa office of Chinese embassy in Seoul doesn't accept visa application from oridinary passport holders, the List of travel agencies designated by the Consular Section of the Chinese Embassy in Seoul is in Korean on this website
http://kr.china-embassy.org/chn/lsqz/ls_qz/ls_qz_13/t229558.htm I can't read Korean, either, so I can't translate it into English, however, the designated travel agencies can apply English service, you can call them, the staff can answer you in English, there are telephone numbers of the designated travel agencies on this list.

You can read the Notice on changes of individual visa application methods in Consular Section of Chinese embassy in Seoul on this webiste http://kr.china-embassy.org/chn/lsqz/ls_qz/qzyw/t354827.htm (in English Version)

Mr.Lee replied:

You can apply for 3 months tourist visa in South Korea. You can go to Seoul to apply for it through one of travel agencies authorized by Chinese Embassy in Seoul. It takes at least 4 working days. the fee 35,000 Korean wons for single entry tourist visa valid for 3 months, however, you have to pay extra less than 20,000 wons for the service of authorized travel agency. You need prepare your original passport, fill in one visa application form of PRC, one recent passport photo

Mr.lib(France) replied:

Thanks Mr Lee,

one question more
should I go myself in Seoul? can I send my passport and all papers from China directly to an agency in seoul which applies the visa for me and sent it me back in china??

Thanks

Feb. 5,2010 02:04
Mr.Bruce replied:

Mr. lib, I think that you can go to the Exit & Enter Department under the Beijing Public Security Bureau to apply for extension of Chinese visa, then you will get a new Chinese visa with another 30 days stay in China. If you get a visa through a travel agency in seoul but you don't go to seoul and return to China from seoul, there won't be the entry stamp on your passport for this new visa, I don't know whether it is a problem or not.

If you can provide the certificate that prove you have the need to visit China for many times, you can get a multiple entry visa, if your spouse, children, or parents are Chinese citizens, and your presents related certificates on relationship or invitation from relatives in China, or if you possess real estate in China, and present the original and one photocopy of the registration certificate for ownership under your name, or all the other documents to show the necessity for this kind of visa.

I am an American citizen. Can I apply for a Chinese single-entry tourist visa in Gwangju? Or do I have to go to Seoul? Can I apply by mail or only in person? Are the forms for the visa available online?

You can apply for Chinese visa in Gwangju if you are near to this city. You can apply for it in person or entrust someone else to apply for you, but you can't apply for it by Email. You can download the Visa Application Form from this website http://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/pdf/visa-application.pdf
