 If you are applying to work or study in China, or if someone else travelling with you shares the same passport, or if you are applying in a country or territory other than the country of your current nationality, you also should fill out the Supplementary Visa Application Form besides the Visa Application Form.


  Requirements for Different Types

 Tourist/Fmily Visit Visa (L)
1. A valid passport and a copy of its information page. The passport should be valid for at least 6 months with a blank page.    
2. Completed and truly filled Application Form; a recent-taken passport photo, which is glued or stapled on the application form; if the applicant has a Chinese name, it should be filled in.
3. For applicants who apply for tourist and family visit L, they should also provide following documents:
     a. Invitation letter from a Chinese organization or a permanent resident in PRC; or
     b. Air ticket booking record (round trip) and hotel reservation.
4. For a child who is under 6 years old, if he/she was not born in PRC but with Chinese descent applying for the first time, the applicant needs to provide the child's birth certificate which show the parent's name, together with one of his or her parents' permanent residence permit or certificate of nationality of the resident country.  
5. For non-UK passport holders, they should provide the original and a copy of their permanent residence or work permit with validity for at least half a year. (Those who are visa or permit exempt for residing or working in the UK are excluded).
6. For applicants who want to visit Tibet, they should first apply for a Tibet Travel Permit from the Tourism Administration of the Tibet Autonomous Region (Tel: 0086-891-6834313; Fax: 0086-891-6834632). 
7. For applicants who apply for special tour (self-driving, hiking, cycling, horse-riding, hot air balloon, or other expeditions) to PRC, they should provide a visa notification form issued by China National Tourism Administration or the one of the related province, autonomous region or municipality.

  Business Visa (F)
1. A valid passport, as well as a copy of its information page. The passport should be valid for at least 6 months with a blank page.    
2. Completed and truly filled Application Form.
3. An Invitation Letter from a company or institution in PRC (The center doesn't accept email ones. Please note the letter should include full name and passport number of the invitee as well as the purpose and duration of the visit) or "Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit" or "Confirmation Letter of Invitation"
4.  For non-UK passport holders, they should provide the original and a copy of their permanent residence or work permit with validity for at least half a year. (Those who are visa or permit exempt for residing or working in the UK are excluded).
5.   Applicants applying for short-term study in China should also provide following additional documents:
     (1) Admission Notice (original and copy);
     (2) Visa Application for Study in China (Form JW-201/JW-202, original and copy, which indicates the period of study being less than 6 months).

 Student Visa (X)
1. Original passport which has more than 18 months left before it expires from the date of application and sufficient blank pages. 
2. Completed and truly filled Application Forms.
3. Except for the above-mentioned documents, applicants applying for a student X should also provide additional documents as following:
       (1). Visa Application for Study in PRC (Form JW-201 or Form JW-202, original and copy);
       (2). Admission Notice (original and copy)

 Work Visa (Z)
1. The original passport valid more than 6 months with sufficient blank pages (valid for 18 months and more if applicants intend to stay in PRC more than one year). 
2. Completed and truly filled Application Forms.
3. Employment Approval Documents required:
         (A) Foreigners who come to PRC to take up employment as experts, scholars, teachers, managerial personnel and as personnel working in related state or local organizations should provide:
         1. Permit for Foreign Experts Working in PRC issued by the State  Bureau of Foreign Experts (original);
         2. "Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit" or "Confirmation Letter of Invitation" (original)
         (B) Foreign technical personnel who come for Offshore petroleum operations should provide: Letter of Invitation to Foreigners for Offshore Petroleum Operations issued by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (original);
         (C) Chief representative or representative of foreign offices resident in PRC should provide:
         1. The registration certificate of resident representative office of foreign enterprises issued by related administrative department of industry and commerce; Or the approval document for the resident representative offices of foreign enterprises issued by related commercial departments.
         2. "Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit" or "Confirmation Letter of Invitation" (original).
         (D) Personnel who come to implement aid or technical cooperative projects should provide:
         1. Bilateral or multilateral agreement between the Chinese Government and foreign government or international organization, for cooperation and exchange;
         2.  "Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit" or "Confirmation Letter of Invitation"(original).
         (E) Personnel who come for commercial performance should provide:
         1. Approval document (original and copy) issued by the Ministry of Culture or the Cultural Department of related province, autonomous region or municipality directly under the Central Government;
         2. "Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit" or "Confirmation Letter of Invitation" (should be used within 6 months since its issuing date) issued by the Ministry of Culture or the foreign affairs office of related province, autonomous region and municipality directly under the Central Government.
         (F) Personnel other than those mentioned above should provide:
         1. The Employment Permit for Foreigners issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security;
         2. "Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit" or "Confirmation Letter of Invitation" (should be used within 6 months since its issuing date) issued by an authorized unit in China (original).
         (G) Accompanying family dependents of personnel working in China should provide related note or letter (should be used within 6 months since its issuing date) issued by an authorized unit or documents proving their status as dependents.

 Transit Visa (G)
1. Original passport valid for more than 6 months with sufficient blank pages. 
2. Completed and truly filled Application Form.
3. A valid visa to the destination country or region and an onward air ticket on international flight to that destination.
