Dear Vicky Dong,
Allow me to say that the way you organized my trip to China was extremely well done. I didn't know what to expect, but from the beginning to the end everything worked very smoothly and without any problems. In every airport the guides and drivers were always there expecting me and ready to help and do their best. The hotels you had selected were excellent and to my liking, and the food served was always very good and tasty. I am honest when I tell you that I have no complaints at all to make, and I will surely use your services again for my next trip to China, probably in 2009 when all the hubaluuba with the Olympics is over. In fact I wish that some of our European travel agencies could learn good service from you.
About some specific aspects, please refer my comments below:
The meals were always good because you had selected excellent restaurants, perhaps not always of the best designs, but always good food which was most important. Since I travelled alone I was able to choose the meals I preferred from the menu, and I always chose the Chinese food. In fact I became quite good at using chopsticks.
The Central hotel dinner in Shanghai is one good meal that comes to my mind and which I can recommend warmly, but there were also many others.
What I particularly liked was the smaller restaurants selected by the guides which did not have big tourist groups coming. Just as an example, although the Tang Dynasty show and dumpling dinner in Xian was certainly very nice and memorable, I somehow did not like to be placed together with what seemed like hundreds of other foreign tourists. To be with Chinese tourists is different because I felt I was with the local people, but sitting with big German or American groups is not my preference. The acrobat show in Shanghai, the Yunnan Minorities show in Kunming (not part of the program) and the Naxi show in Lijiang were different and I liked those better because there seemed to be fewer foreigners and I was not mixed with them.
You have done a great job in selecting excellent guides. Being a Norwegian male I particularly appreciated having female guides in most places, and although I know that your policy may be that the guides should not eat together with the clients, I was able to convince some of them to join me for lunches which was very pleasant indeed for me as I was travlling alone. I am very grateful for that.
I cannot complain about any of the guides, - they were all very nice, proper, polite, friendly, knowledgeable and smiling.
English pronounciation is not always easy, and it often took a little while for me, as well as for them, to get used to the different ways of pronouncing English words. However, I did not have any serious problems with any of them and I was able to have interesting conversations with most.
My impression of the guides was that they all had sufficient knowledge about the places, at least I was not able to ask any questions that they could not answer..
The drivers were always very nice towards me. However, the traffic can be nasty in some places and driving must be very stressful. In a couple of cases this led to some expressions of anger from the driver towards others. The cars were very good and nice, perhaps with the exception of Shanghai where they used a mini-bus with limited visibility and too big for only one person. For the very long car travels like from Dali to Shangri La and back to Lijiang, it would have been nice to have a driver that could speak a couple of English words, but somehow we managed well in any case.
I would like to recommend your agency to anybody planning a trip to China. You paid attention to every detail of my trip, and I never had a disappointment with your selection of hotels or restaurants, guides, transport and pick-up in the various airports. I came to trust you 100%. Being a lone traveller I always try to avoid being made part of any other big foreign groups, something which is very difficult in China, but the guides were extremely helpful in helping me to get things the way I preferred. They were wonderful.
I took more than 1000 photos during this trip, and I am still sorting them out. If it is OK with you I will provide a few (3-4) in a few days time.
It is OK with me if you want to put my comments or pictures into your Testimonial column. I am a little worried about putting my email address there because of the risk of receiving much spam, but on the other hand I will be happy to confirm my views to any clients you may get that wants some reference about your company.
My best regards
Arne Dalfelt
