Dear Nicole,

Thank you for your email inviting our comments regarding our recent holiday in China.

We would very much like to congratulate your company on its impressive organisation. Everything went according to plan. Your guides were, without exception, knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and caring. Their English was excellent.

Whilst we would not wish to single out any particular guide, Oliver (Chengdu) does deserve a special mention. Due to our illness, we were unable to travel to the train station as arranged. He completely reorganised the travel arrangements which (after a rest) allowed us to travel many hours later (by express coach) and still arrive in Chongqing in time to board the Yangtze cruise ship. He had reorganised the guide and driver so that they met us instead at the bus station. He was very considerate of our welfare which relieved the situation.

With a few minor exceptions, generally the hotels and food were very good/excellent. However, we would like to draw your attention to the following.

The first lunch in Beijing was very poor in terms of the venue and quality of food.

City Hotel in Xian was disappointing and (relative to the other hotels) did not merit 3 stars.

Finally, we were not happy with your company's recommended tips policy. $30 per day for guide and driver added very much to the expense of the holiday. The fall in the value of the ￡ sterling made this a costly addition.

Our previous impression was that tipping in China was frowned upon so your suggestion came as something of a surprise.

Having made these points we would like to close by thanking you for the excellent way in which you organised our tour. You met all our special requirements and enabled us to have a wonderful holiday. We would certainly contact you if we were to visit China again and we shall not hesitate to recommend your company to others.

To all at TravelChinaGuide, Thank you for planning us a very enjoyable tour of your amazing country. 1. Meals were well varied and we left China rating Chinese food very highly. Best meal perhaps was the Peking duck restaurant in Beijing. Second perhaps the banquet in Chongqing. 2. Guides. All guides were excellent, well educated and very knowledgeable about their subjects and left us with great enthusiasm for Chinese history and culture. Evelyn our bubbly guide in Guilin was our favourite. Carol’s knowledge was quite outstanding in Xian. Sara in Beijing so caring and thoughtful and worked in changes to our schedule so well. Judy filled our day in Chongqing with so many interesting and enjoyable features. We understood all our guides and their comprehension of English was total. Tracy’s English was excellent in Shanghai. 3. Cars and all drivers were first class. Excellent safe driving, all prompt and cars kept meticulously clean. Our trip of China was well balanced showing us beautiful scenic areas along with the awesome historical sites and cultural highlights. It was fun planning it with endless patience from your office staff esp Flora Cu and Eileen Wang. Highly competent guides kept us entertained and informed and worked around us meeting up and spending time with our son who lives in Beijing, including him in activities. I must have close on 2000 photos to sift through and put into an album when I have time, a task I am looking forward to !! I will forward one or two on when I have chosen the best. And we are happy that you share our comments with other visitors to china through your company.
