As for Canaan International Hotel, Xian, it is an old hotel. The room is nice and location is ok. Very helpful and friendly staff, good English speaking, clearly tailored to foreign tourism. Little downside is that the hotel is initially not easy to find (on a little side street out of view) and it took a while for us to get there.

1. I enjoyed the Canaan Hotel in Xian very much. (They should give it a better English name though - "canaan" sounds too much "biblish"). Since I speak Mandarin I did not encounter any language problems. The maids were nice, I talked to the lady in the little shop, and the receptionists were very helpful. Most wonderful is the Chinese breakfast. But it can become a little too crowded when you have an early start and two Chinese groups will do exactly the same. Good location, room ok, service fine.
2. I knew TCG from earlier travels - very effective, fast and satisfying.
