I booked this hotel after reviewing pictures and comments on the internet and was sorely disappointed. My family and I are living in China and travel frequently. We often stay in Chinese style hotels and have been happy with other Chinese hotels. This one was not to our liking. The staff were courteous enough, however had little to no English. I don't have a problem with Chinese not speaking English - except when it has been advertised as an International standard hotel with a good level of English. The whole hotel absolutely reeked of stale cigarette smoke. There are no room safes, no free coffee / tea facilities. Overall quite an unpleasant hotel to stay in. Would not recommend.

The hotel was in good and clean condition. I cannot recommend the breakfast bar. It was just off of a main street that was mostly a dead street. But from the main street a taxi was readily available. Their tour coordinator went the extra miles to bee helpful. She arranged car transportation and the drivers were very patient. I cannot thank Jilly enough for her help; she is A-1 in my book. I will definitely remember this hotel on my return trips.

We were in the Canaan hotel at Xian in July 2010.
This hotel is horrible, DO NOT GO THERE. It is badly spotted, dirty. We asked to be changed to a cleaner room two times and all the rooms were as dirty as the other ones. The breakfast is bad and expensive. And when we were going to check out they wanted to charge us a condom we never used. The manager wrote to us later to apologies but we still have a bad impression of that hotel. Travel chinaguides service was very good and the personal attention of Miss. Sara Liu was exceptional and fast

My husband and I were overall very pleased with our stay at this hotel. We stayed 3 nights in the Deluxe Queen Room.
Positives - The hotel accommodated an extremely early check in for us (much appreciated). Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Jilly, an English speaking customer service rep, was accessible 24-hours a day by phone should we need anything or have questions. We arranged a tour to the Terra-Cotta Warriors through the hotel, which was very enjoyable. The facilities are showing some wear, but the room was spacious and clean. The location of the hotel was excellent. We walked everywhere within the city walls, or took short taxi rides outside the walls. Taxis were able to find the hotel without much trouble. The hotel also arranged a driver to take us to the airport the day we checked out.
Negatives - Buffet breakfast left something to be desired. There are only 2 elevators accessible from the lobby, so you had to wait sometimes for an elevator. Walls are a bit thin, and you could sometimes hear people in the halls or neighboring rooms. Beds are hard (but this is standard in China). Not many nearby Western restaurant options, but a nearby noodle shop were pretty good. There is no English sign out front of the hotel, so you don't know until you get inside if you are in the right place.
Booking with TCG was easy and efficient. I will recommend to friends and use this service in the future.
