I stayed on September 2008 with my colleague, although that the Hotel is quite old but we find out that the rooms was nice and clean.

I think they have renovated some of their rooms because my bathrooms looks quite new.

The Reception spoke standard english, MRT is about 15 minutes walk. I would like to thank TCG for their assistant.

Dear Ms Qian,

My comments on the Metropole are that it is in need of refurbishment, especially to the bathrooms. Other than that, it was an excellent location, being only a short walk from the Bund and a slightly longer walk to everywhere else.

"We stayed in a delux room in April 2008. It was a very good hotel and the location is hard to beat. A lot of very good eats in the area that were much better than most on Nanjing Road. The hotel itself was nice and clean if a little dated. Staff were excellent and spoke English which made life easy for us. Delux rooms also had internet in the rooms which was very convenient.

As for TCG, they were nothing short of excellent. Even our last minute change of travel dates were dealt with quickly and without any fuss. Their e-mail with the Chinese name for the hotel was also most important and useful. Can't recommend them highly enough."

Hello TCG,

Shanghai Metropole Hotel is located very close to the Pedestrian Street and is at walking distance to the bund and the metro as well. The room was spacious. The staff were not very polite, they even claimed that there was no metro station located nearby. They even tried to charge us extra because we landed up at 6:30pm. We were also informed that the Air conditioners would not be turned on unless the temperature would cross 30degrees celsius. The room was very stuffy without AC!!

However, booking through TCG was excellent as always, very professional and transactions handled smoothly.

Thank you for your kind and sincere feedback again. We do have rechecked your complaints with the hotel.

For the wrong instruction of the location, since the receptionists are newcomers, they are not very familiar with the surroundings of the hotel. They are so sorry about that. The hotel promises to improve the training of the staff to make them more qualified.

For the extra charge, we were informed by the hote that you checked in the hotel at 19:30 instead of 18:30 of Apr 18. Generally, if you check in the hotel after 18:00, the booking (without any notification and guaranteed in advance) made through the booking centers will be considered as invalid by the hotel. Then guests should pay the room price according to the rack price of the hotel which is always higher than that the booking agencies offer. Hope for your better understanding.

For the air-conditioner, we were informed by the hotel that they do have the above-mentioned regulations. We have complained for this, and they will try to improve it to meet the guests' needs. We are sincerely sorry for the trouble caused to you.

Best of all is location. Facility and staff service was OK, but the room was bad, old, worn out, smelly and with a terrible floor, like walking on a mattress. But because of the location, the overall rating is 3/5.

1. Fair for overall aspects, including the facility, staff service, location as well as surroundings.

2. Facility ==> Room space is ok. Curtain looks dirty as it's old and dull. Wardrobe is also quite old. Toilet room is so so. But heater is very bad and it did not work well during my stay. I won't book this hotel anymore.

3. My booking experience through TCG Booking Center is very good and i do appreciate your service.

4. I think your overall Booking center is good. It's easy to book as well as your prompt response towards any update booking..i.e. change the hotel, adjust new booking date. Keep it on going. I will visit your website regularly at any time i have planned for overseas trip.

If you are looking for a value for money & convenient place to sleep & rest then this is the hotel. Restaurants & Street market all near by espcially the Bunds. Hotel service are ordinary.

As previously, TCG service was excellent.

In terms of the Metropole Hotel, Shanghai, I would comment :-)

The hotel is well located, being a short walk from both the Bund, and Nanjing Road. The breakfast is adequate, but not of the standard of many more modern hotels, but the friendliness of the staff does compensate for this.

The rooms are basic, but clean. No drawer space at all for clothes is a challenge - only a hanging wardrobe.

Front office staff are excellent and two have a reasonable command of english. This hotel is excellent value for money, and I would recommend it to anyone. My wife's flight got diverted to Hong Kong and she arrived without luggage. The staff were extremely helpful in assisting with this.

I have stayed at Metropole hotel 3-4 times and I like this place. The hotel is situated at a very convenient place where a person can enjoy a walk at river front or at the People's Square. Metro stations are also nearby. If you can, then I would suggest that this hotel improve its food variety to suit Europeans and Indians.
