My wife and I stayed at this hotel ...

My wife and I stayed at this hotel during March 2009 and found this a very good hotel. Rooms were very clean and well made up. Staff were quite helpful, and fixed up a mixup for where we misunderstood the meaning of "single" and "double" rooms which are different to Australia almost before we had put the phone down. My wife is a Cantonese speaker with some Mandarin, though I was able to do most of the transactions in English. In terms of location this hotel is away from the train station (but not far, maybe 15mins in a taxi) and probably a 20-30 min walk from the Drum Tower and other sites, and we took tour for the out of town attrations. It was a short walk to some fabulous eating around the corner. Construction work around the hotel is finished, but continues in Datong and the areas around the city centre are quite dusty and chaotic.

My wife Debi and I just got back form Hotel Datong. Thank you Travel China Guide! Your service was excellent and our preferences at the Hotel were met.
The Hotel room was very clean and spacious. The service and food was great, but communication is very limited. Thank goodness I can speak some Chinese.
We would recommend this hotel and would go back.

It is a very good hotel; I would like to recommend this hotel. The location is great, very close to the train station, with convenient transportation, also there are some famous sights near to the hotel, the Huayan Temple is one of them. Hotel service is perfect. I really appreciate their help when I stayed in the hotel.

I stayed at the Datong Hotel 21-23 ...

I stayed at the Datong Hotel 21-23 May. The room was comfortable, and the food was good. However, there was a lot of noise from a building site next door. Also the staff did not display much in the way of professionalism. At breakfast I was stared and laughed at by a waitress, who went and got the chef to come and have a look at me (I happen to have a rather large beard and moustache). At checkout several members of staff were standing behind the counter, all seemingly doing some paperwork, while several people stood waiting to be served. Then they would help people who talked the loudest, or pushed to the front. Their indifference and lack of a friendly smile (not to mention extremely poor English) has left, for me, a bad impression of this hotel.

The Hotel is conveniently located ...

The Hotel is conveniently located in the Centre of the City. It may not need any vehicle transportation for a shopping spree.

The Hotel is well decorated and atmosphere is pleasant. The Front Hall is designed to accommodate substaintial amount of guests.

Staff is well trained to world standard and helpful. Some are eloquent in English to avert any language problems.

The guest rooms are neat and TV programmes are well sufficient for any requirements from both Oriental and Western travellers.

Would prefer not to attach any sales promotion with the key folder to avert any adverse impacts to the images of the Hotel

We are very satisfied with the Datong Hotel in Datong. The room was clean with a great bathroom and a comfortable bed. The breakfast was delicious with a great choice of Chinese and continental dishes. This hotel is a very good option if you stay in Datong.

We had a good time staying at Datong Hotel, staff are friendly and helpful, hotel is good equipment, food (we only had breakfast there) is acceptable, location is good too.
