Regarding hotel - only bad experience. no one speaking English except 1 manager, who cheated us 2 times on different topics during our stay. Once he sold us 2 tickets 380 each, while tickets actually were 280 each. Another time he wanted so badly to sell us a private hotel guide to drive us to the great wall, that he said private guide will be cheaper than joining a regular tourist group. Luckily we joined a group and saved approx 50% in the end.

Rooms are not clean, bad smell (because of smoking inside all hotel i think), windows leaking both, air and sound, very dirty. We thought this is normal standard for 4 star hotel in china. But later we staid in Millenium Harbourview hotel in Xiamen, and that was so better! Just like a 5 star, while it was same 4 stars. So me with my wife concluded that local Chinese hotels are getting stars from local authorities easier, while international, foreign capital owned brands have to be 5 stars value in order to get 3 or 4 stars.

Overall happy with the service, although room is a bit small, old and shower not working well. I was taken aback by the high deposit requirement (1.5 times of total room charges). Is this normal in Beijing hotels? I don't have this experience in other Chinese cities.

Thank you so much for your kind and sincere reply. In China, almost all the hotels charge deposit when you check in, while the amount of deposit varies by hotels, ranging from 1.3 to 2 times of your total room rate. So, it is normal for the hotel to charge 1.5 times of your total room charge as deposit. Hope for your kind understanding.

Close to the great square, the hotel is nicely located. Hotel has had her best days and need maintenance certainly the carpets on the floor in our room. Nice service, friendly people as everywhere in China.( 4 stars is too much)

Booking experience through TCG Booking Center: We were very surprised about the correctness and excellent service, at the hotel receptions we were announced and got a good service. Traveling in China with your bookings, there are no problem at all, and even more efficient although in Europe. For us you earn 5 stars.

Actually the room is fine.
However they do big renovation in the same floor we stayed, creates a lot of dust.... we then request move room in day 2, they give us (good effort), but still in the new floor they still do some renovation.
As we bring kids, I feel it's not ok.
