Hotel Information
General
Gyalthang Dzong Hotel, Shangri-la (Zhongdian) which is against the Rituobo Mountain of Shangri-La has an appearance looking like a Tibetan Lama temple. In the hotel center is the tranquil and elegant traditional quadrangle dwelling, facing distinctive Tibetan style guest rooms which are decorated with saturated orange, maroon and knot-free patterns of lucky symbols in Tibetan Buddhism. It is absolutely convenient for you to get to city center in 15 minutes’ walk and to Shangri-La Airport in 10 minutes’ drive. The standard international management and service has perfectly integrated with intense authentic Tibetan style in the hotel, which provides you with warm and comfortable accommodation.

The hotel was amazing. I enjoyed my staying there very much. Hotel was built in the local ethical style. You will find you were in another different world and feel quite excited. Room was compact but very clean, the decor of the room was characteristic. I never experienced this before. The staffs were so friendly and so generous with their time with any requests. I would like to recommend this hotel to all of my friends. Thank you for your kind service.

I checked out earlier as I had a bit of cold, and not feeling well. The hotel told me that there would be no penalty for shortening the stay so I decided to go home earlier than scheduled. The room was pretty, but somehow it was very smelly.. that was another reason for leaving earlier..I think it comes from water drainage.
I appreciated your service especially your communicating with the hotel about my late arrival. In fact, all the standard room, which I originally booked for, was fully taken, and they upgraded me to a suite with no extra charge.
Many thanks,
Tomoko

Thank-you for your email. We appreciated the TCG reservation service for the Gyalthang Dzong Hotel, Shangri-la.
However, upon arrival in Shangri-la (Zhongdian), we were all a little disappointed.
To start with we struggled to find the hotel in taxis as they were completely rebuilding the main road directly outside the hotel. Taxis could not drive there (it is some 2km outside town). During our stay we had to either walk across a building site to get to the old town, or else pay an expensive taxi ride into town in a 4x4 (booked through the hotel).
After our complaints the hotel issued an apology, but took no action. In this case we believe the hotel should have offered their minibus as a complimentary shuttle service into town. Upon our suggesting this, the hotel seemed to pretend not to have a minibus, despite the fact that one was often parked outside.
We were also a little disappointed by the hotel reception staff and the tours they offered for USD 200 per day (when they are available for much less in town)!
Bicycles were RMB 100 per day to hire from the hotel, and RMB 5-10 in town. Whilst we understand that a hotel may chose to take a commission for such services, this was just ridiculous.
On the whole we expected more from this hotel, and we decided to move on early to the next leg of our holiday so as to avoid further disappointment and aggrevation.
Kind regards,
Stephen Potts
