Now the Lily Hotel, Hangzhou:
We had no difficulty in checking into the hotel on the day of arrival. The staff was pleasant and spoke a little English and we were able to get into the room very quickly. We found the hotel on the whole pretty good, clean and the facade is impressive both from the outside and as you enter the lobby. However, we wish there was more information for tourists (we had to ask the bellboy for brochures on Hangzhou) since Hangzhou is supposed to be famous as a tourist city. The Staff at the counter were also not able to help much in giving us information on local tours, etc. As elderly tourists (we are over 70 years old!!) we found the hotel far from Westlake to walk to and outside food was equally not available for us to walk to from the hotel. The hotel seems to cater more for group tourists where the local bus drivers all know the places well but for small tourists like us, we did not enjoy such knowledge!!! For example, we saw a tourist bus (open air type) passing by the hotel and made inquiries at the counter but got no information as the staff did not know anything about it!!! The bellboy was more helpful and told us where to catch the bus but gave us the wrong bus stop!!!!!! It would help small individual tourists if the city would make available one day or short travel passes sold by the hotels so that we can travel on the buses without the need to have exact change for bus fares. Australia has such a system which makes individual tourist's life that much easier. We commented to the hotel that we selected the hotel only because of China Travel which gave us good service before and has not disappointed us this time either. We found the Lakeside Hotel to be nearest the Westlake and within walking distance for us - probably this is the hotel we would stay if we go to Hangzhou the next time. However, we also found the Friendship Hotel to be very good as we stayed there for one night on our return from Suzhou and catching the flight back to KL the following day.

I hope the above comments would be useful. Generally, we wish for free and easy travellers like us, there are more help to give us information on local tours and how to book them, how to travel etc. Maps of the hotel and nearby streets and eating shops would also be helpful. Maybe you can make this available for would be travellers when they book through you.

We are very happy with the services provided by TravelChinaGuide. I think the service is superb and we will use it again next time when we travel China.

As regarding the hotels, our comments are as following:

Orange Hotel - Moganshan Road, Hangzhou

The location of the hotel was very convenient. The modern design of the hotel gave a pleasant feel. The facilities were good standard. The only thing we did not like was that the windows in our room were too high and small that we were unable to see whether it was sunny or raining; our room situated on the 1st floor but there was no lift and sometimes the staircase was blocked by bags of dirty laundry. Because we extended our stay, on our last night we moved to another room also on the same floor, there was an unpleasant smell coming from the drainage in the bathroom.
