TravelChinaGuide - Thanks for your note, I'm happy to reply. 1. Hao Yuan Courtyard, Beijing The HaoYuan is an excellent accommodation in Beijing. It is exceptional because it is an authentic piece of Beijing history in a friendly hutong, unlike the sterile high rise multinational impersonal manipulative hotels within the same area. Location is good for access to all central sites and activities. Metro stop is a short 2 blocks away. Neighborhood is quiet. Wireless internet worked well in my room, and there is a computer terminal available for guests. Staff is friendly and inviting, English speaking, always helpful and willing to assist with any reservations. Rooms are comfortable and clean, bathrooms new, usual minibar and accessories. Taxis do not know the route well, but the online map seems to get them there eventually. Lobby is well stocked with local information as well as books and souvenirs. Breakfast is very good, plenty of food, several Chinese dishes and some western items. 2. TCG Booking Center service: Everything worked fine, all as I'd hoped for. Thank you. The hotel is within a walking distance to shopping street, a nice cafe there nearby, and no noise of traffic at all! The room was spacy enough, very clean, staff (though not very good command of English) helpful and friendly. The best thing is the "idea" of the hotel: courtyard meaning that it is "closed" by high wall, Chinese style deco and atmosphere - plus pretty good food in the small restaurant. I do recommend if you are not for Western style glassy buildings with 4-5 stars! Booking with TCG was very easy and flexible, thank you. There were no problems in using your booking service although in the case of the HaoYuan Hotel it was a little more fiddly than dealing with hotels which charged directly via credit cards over the internet. The hotel address in "Chinese" which you provided was much used and appreciated. Our transfer and four night stay at the above mentioned hotel was without incident and we have nothing but positive comments to offer. Staff members were friendly, polite and helpful even if English was obviously more difficult for some than others, making communication a little more challenging. The ladies in the homely restaurant/dining room in particular were very charming and welcoming as were the younger staff manning reception, who didn't mind having a chat with the tourists from "down under". Location of the hotel was excellent for us as we enjoy exploring on foot and it is just a short walk to the centre of activity with bright lights, serious shopping, and fine dining. However, once you turn into the lane where the hotel is situated, there is a distinct feeling of being in a very different, old time Beijing. The hotel building in itself is an experience to be treasured - a miniature history lesson. From the quiet, pretty courtyard, to the spacious and inviting rooms which echo a traditional lifestyle and decor - we fell in love with it all and did not have to compromise on comfort or service for the privilege. We would heartily recommend this establishment to anyone who likes the idea of staying in a culturally authentic (or as near as possible) environment when visiting Beijing-so much more fun than the more usual high rise western style accommodation on offer.
