An outdated Howard Johnson hotel. The facilities are good, but the service offered is so-so. The bathroom was clean. The best part is the room has a view of the old city wall and the hotel is close to starbucks, pizza hut and etc. And we are the only foreigners checked in on that day.

Good international standard hotel which should please any Westerner. Food quite good but not gourmet; Helpful concierge. Only one staff member at check in. This was chaotic and interrupted by a Chinese guide demanding to be attended to first. English comprehension poor.
Miserable gatekeeper at buffet wanted 12RMB for tiny jug of milk for tea in the room as none was provided. Internet is free in lobby but not in the room.

City view room was great; the views over the city wall and south gate were wonderful, especially with all the Chinese new years decorations lit up. Room clean and nice and very big. Restaurant cafe21 does a great evening buffet with wine and beer included great value and good choice of western and Chinese. Breakfasts in the same restaurant very good. The Chinese restaurant turned us away saying they had no room, although most of the restaurant was empty, unsure what that was all about. Lobby and Lobby bar very nice. Location great for city wall. need to get taxi to pagoda park and train station for terracotta warriors bus. Only fault was on checking out they accused us of stealing bottle opener and I had to empty rucksack in lobby to prove my innocence, I was very upset about this and being accused of being a criminal. It ruined my stay, but I would still recommend this hotel to others as it was perfect until then. On another note, Taxis in Xian are very difficult; they are selective and almost impossible to get one to take you to where you want to go. Public buses however are good.

The booking process was great. The Howard Johnson Ginwa Plaza Hotel in Xian was priced very reasonable, clean and comfortable. It was rated a 5 star hotel but I would rate it a 4 star hotel because of the size of the room, older television the service in the restaurant was very slow and the waitress was not attentive.

Ms. Elaine
