I recently stayed at this hotel and had a less than stellar time. I stayed at the old tower and over all, the room was just that, a room, nothing special, but it was incredibly hot. Unusually hot, even by Chinese standards. Hotel maintenance checked it out and they did nothing. The air conditioner blew hot air and the windows did not open. I complained and was told a bogus excuse and when I asked to be moved to another room, I was told no. Unfortunately, this tainted my stay (I spent 5 days there November 23 to 27 2009) since the room was really, really hot. In addition, there were a lot of little things: an additional 15% service fee when I went to get a beer at the bar that was not applied the first few days but then evertime there after, no cold water and the sheets in the bed were not changed either, even after I asked for fresh sheets after my third night stay. Also, my last night at the hotel was terrible: there seemed to have been some sort of political gathering with some major politicians or powerful people. I step out for a rehearsal (I am a classical musician in town for a concert) and when I came back, there were cops and metal detectors in the lobby and security REFUSED to let me in the lobby or up to my room. I showed them my hotel registration, room key and other docs to no avail and the hotel front desk did absolutely NOTHING to help. I was angry and miserable: it was late and I was not allowed to go to the room that I had paid for. I understand a big part of any hotel are conferences and meetings, byt not at the expense of guests: I know all about securing an area for a government official or VIP but not to keep paying, honest registered hotel guests away from their rooms at the end of the day. If the hotel would have just informed us, the foreign guests, we would have made other plans. All in all, a terrible experience and this is not a 5 star hotel under any notmal circumstances.

I have stayed two times at Huatian (May 2008 and then December), and I plan to stay in late July 2009. I stayed in both towers. Yes, the older tower is well... older. But I found room service and general standards high in either tower. The housekeeping staff and front desk staff were extremely helpful (Ms. Wang seemed to be my personal assistant during my stay). I worked out in the gym and swam in the pool every day; both facilities were excellent.
Thus, I suggest that anyone having problems with Huatian needs to 1) complain to management immediately; 2) consider that they just encountered a "perfect storm" of bad circumstance, for instance, the snowstorm. Give Huatian a chance. I will return.

I used to book this hotel for more then six times and in generell i liked it but nowadays the hotel bellboys introduced a antismoking campaign which has never been announced by the hotel. Furthermore there are no signs in the hotel indicating non-smoking zones. However, the staff is focusing only on me as a foreigner in restricting me smoking in the lobby and do not touch any Chinese citizen. I felt pretty bad because it seems to me some types of nationalism in dealing with me different then with the other mainly Chinese hotel guest. I think i have to change the hotel in future for my next 10 business trips. Sorry for this hotel.

Everything was fine, the only comment I have is that in the Huatina Hotel I tryed to call by phone to my office in Mexico and couldn't do it, so I call the operator to help me to make the call and she could hardly speak english and couldn't help me at all. In general I think the Huatian Hotel needs to improve in the english speaking of their staff. I will suggest also to include more occidental options of food for the restaurants and room
service.
