I have stayed two times at Huatian (May 2008 and then December), and I plan to stay in late July 2009. I stayed in both towers. Yes, the older tower is well... older. But I found room service and general standards high in either tower. The housekeeping staff and front desk staff were extremely helpful (Ms. Wang seemed to be my personal assistant during my stay). I worked out in the gym and swam in the pool every day; both facilities were excellent.
Thus, I suggest that anyone having problems with Huatian needs to 1) complain to management immediately; 2) consider that they just encountered a "perfect storm" of bad circumstance, for instance, the snowstorm. Give Huatian a chance. I will return.

I used to book this hotel for more then six times and in generell i liked it but nowadays the hotel bellboys introduced a antismoking campaign which has never been announced by the hotel. Furthermore there are no signs in the hotel indicating non-smoking zones. However, the staff is focusing only on me as a foreigner in restricting me smoking in the lobby and do not touch any Chinese citizen. I felt pretty bad because it seems to me some types of nationalism in dealing with me different then with the other mainly Chinese hotel guest. I think i have to change the hotel in future for my next 10 business trips. Sorry for this hotel.

Dear Lena Quian,

The facility at Huatian Hotel, Changsha was poor. However, I have to be fair. When I booked the hotel through your site, I did not realize that it had two sections, of course I booked the older side since the price was a bit lower (too good to be true). I wished your site had provided this detail. The old section is... well, old and it showed. For example, it took me a while to figure out where the hair blow-dry was since it was a big box mounted on the wall, and looked like a vacuum machine. Is that an antique??

Also, I noticed that maids came to my room cleaning everyday, but never changed my bed sheets during my whole week stay. Gross!

So, the answer is: Do Not Stay at Huatian Hotel. It claims to be a five star hotel, I will give 2. Please keep this in mind, I went back to China several times and stayed in several Beijing and Shanghai 4 and 5 star hotels. Let's just say the facility and service at Huatian Hotel did not even come close to these 4-5 star hotels in above 2 big cities.

Booking through your center was excellent. I would use your company again when my family travels back to China again next summer.

Thanks.

Dear Mrs. Dian Snyder,

Thank you for your sincere reply and kind patience.

[+] For the hotel's 2 buildings, yes, the hotel do have two buildings and the Building A is old. Since it was built in 1985 and the latest renovation was done in 2005, the Building A cannot compare with the modern luxurious hotels. besides, this building is mainly used for group booking due to the low price. The leadership are always paying attention to the facilities of the Building A and they will try their best to solve this problem as soon as possible. The hotel staff are really sorry for this and they really appreciate your kind understanding.

As for the booking center, we are would like to make apology to you for all the trouble and inconveniencies brought to you.

[+] Also, I noticed that maids came to my room cleaning everyday, but never changed my bed sheets during my whole week stay.

Dear madam, we were informed by the hotel that as a five star hotel approved by the National Tourism Bureau, the hotel tries the best to be a environmentally friendly hotel. Therefore, the bed sheet is changed every two or three days. If the guests request, they can change the sheets everyday.

Besides, have you ever remembered that during your stay period (January 22 to January 31) in the hotel, South China was undergoing a heavy snow disaster? Changsha City, where the hotel is located, also suffered from shortage of electricity and water. We are very sorry about that and we really hope you could understand.

Please feel free to contact us should you need any help or any info.

Best Regards,

Lena Qian
