Located in city center, Elan Inn (Longxiang), Hangzhou is at the intersection of Yan'an Road and Xueshi Road. The charming West Lake is also located in walking-distance from the hotel. Good position, the staff was nice but they don't talk a word in English. The room smell of smoke, the bathroom smell worst, the floor is dirty and the towels were grey and torn. It' easy to find at a lower price a better hotel.

We spent 5 nights at Elan Inn and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in an excellent location - close to West Lake and the centre of town. When completed the Metro will pass right beside the Hotel. There is a very good restaurant attached to the hotel which serves excellent breakfasts and very good meals at dinner time. There are also lots of other restaurants nearby with a variety of price levels.
The booking service provided by TravelChinaGuide was very efficient and our room was ready when we arrived. Though not luxurious, the room was comfortable, well serviced and had everything you could need. Staff is pleasant - the reception staff has limited English, but will call the manager who speaks good English if necessary. Recommend this hotel as providing very good value for money.

Elan Hotel is in a nice location, making it easy to walk to West Lake. I was surprised to find out that their air conditioning in the hotel room is only turned on at 7 pm and is turned off at 4 am. One of the staff did speak some English and all of the staff was helpful. Our Internet did not work in our room with our American laptop. Not sure why as it worked at the hotel in Haining, but we were allowed to use the computer in their lobby for free.

The real plus for this hotel is its location. Basic tourist Hangzhou is relatively simple. The West Lake is a giant circle with interesting things to see all around. Three blocks east is the commercial district, which can be pictured as a road (Yan An road) connecting Wulin Guangchang (Wu forest square) in the north and Wushan Guangchang (Wu mountain square) in the south. The hotel is half way between both squares just off Yan An Road. So - get up early in the morning and walk three blocks to West Lake and see people doing Tai Chi and Martial Arts exercises. Take a bus a few blocks south to Wushan square and enjoy the reconstructed Qing Dynasty old city - with shops, restaurants and a nightly theater above the old city gate. The hotel is in a large city-block sized building, just above a branch office of the Agricultural Bank of China. The staff is friendly, but it is helpful if you know some basic Chinese. Day-long tours leave from the hotel - I recommend the one to Wuzheng, the traditional water town that is about an hour's drive away. Booking though Travelchinaguide is easy and reliable. I have dealt with them for several years now and have always been totally and pleasantly satisfied.
